Since you catch rebounds and block shots with your hands (typically reached up) rather than with the top of your head, standing reach for bigs is more important than height.

Here are the standing reach of some of the players:

    Dorsey: 8'11''
Landry 8'6.5''' (just about the shortest out there among PFs... definitely had to over come that with atheleticism and heady play)
    Chuck Hayes 8'8.5''

    As reference, here are:

    Troy Murphy: 8'9.5''.
    Chris Wilcox: 8'11.5''
    Drew Gooden: 8'10.5''
    Joakim Noah: 8'10.5''
    Josh Smith: 8'10.5''
    Troy Murphy 8'9.5''
    Jason Maxiell: 8'11''
    Dan Langhi: 8'8''
    Kwame Brown 9'0''
    Al Horford 8'11''

Dorsey is not quite as long as:
    Elton Brand 9'2''
    Al Jefferson 9'2''
    Darko Milicic 9'3.5''
    Bosh 9'1''
    Shaq: 9'5''
    Diop: 9'5''

But he's plenty long enough. And he brings a lot of grith and atheleticism, too, which matter as much as length when it comes to post play. He's as long as or longer than many guys who no one ever consider undersized.

excellent point. plus he's got a 27.5 inch standing vertical and 33 inch vertical. he's a space eater with his hulk-like body and i doubt anyone outside of shaq could out-muscle him in the paint. he'll be fine in the NBA

    Thread title of the year?

I'm glad Yao's is the longest. Puts the stereotype about how long Azn men are to rest.

Let's make two things very clear:

    1) Dorsey is VERY undersized, measuring 6'6.25" during predraft camp (http://www.draftexpress.com/nba-pre-draft-measurements/?year=2008&sort2=ASC&draft=0&sort), yes, that's a quarter inch over 6'6". He is certainly undersized for a power forward. However, his strength and girth (265 lbs) may somewhat help to make up for his short stature.

    2) With a 33" max vertical and mediocre speed measurements, Dorsey shouldn't be considered athletic. In fact, a 33" vertical is slightly below this year's average.

With these being said, I still think Dorsey has some upside. He has a good shot can may extend his range to NBA three-pointer; he seems to be a hard worker and a player of good character. He can potentially be a solid contributor, but is he what we need next season? My guess is that Morey picked up Dorsey as insurance in case we can't keep Landry.

I don't know about him draining any 3-pters. His offense is apparently very limited. If by Dorsey having a good shot and you mean "dunk" then I agree with you :)

IF Yao's wingspan was like Jaber Rouzbahani(Search him up guys warning he is Sam Cassell's grandpappy in the looks department) Imagine Yao being able to dunk without jumping!!

DAMN, Yao used to have a 26' vertical? Man, no wonder he looked alot more athletic during his earlier days.
