I'm weary of the accuracy of Defensive Rating, but the interesting thing with Chuck is he rates near the top of the league defensive both in terms of box score stats (Defensive Rating) and On/Off +/- impact (Defensive adjusted +/-). One or the other could be a fluke, but when he's rated as one of the best at both I think that should tell us something.

Say what you want about Chuck, but the guy can definitely defend. That said, he struggles at times against bigger, more athletic and physical players. Dorsey could be a better defensive matchup there.

Chill with the Ben Wallace and Dennis Rodman comparisons. I wasn't excited about the pick at 1st but now I'm starting to like the pick, but I'm not going to call him the next Ben Wallace yet.

Chuck is under contract and may be trade bait. Wood and Harris is not (not guaranteed). They are likely gone.

I would love to see a "muscle man" play next to Yao. As long as Joey knows how to cut to the rim and dunk that's going to be gravey. You don't need another scorer at the 4 if you got Yao and Tmac on the floor.

The scoring upgrade needed to be at the 3 and PG and that wasn't going to get done with a late 1st rounder.

CDR is not the answer, not according to Morey. He really diss CDR big time so unless he's proven wrong, CDR will not be a factor in the NBA.

considering that we did not have the 33rd pick i think it is a great pickup. he is bigger stronger and better than chuck. and the ability to pick up an extra pick early in the 2nd round as well as a late first for our first was an amazing job by morey.

I agree. This kid was picked as much for defending the Boozers of the league as he was for replacing Chuck's minutes at the 5. Heck, any big you want moved out of their comfort zone isn't going to like seeing this dude check into a game, IMO. He blocks shots, finishes, and will be a huge target for McGrady's passes inside, ala Landry. It's a risk, but if Dorsey pans out, he'll be a very useful rotation player by mid-season. If we get that from him, it's an outstanding 2nd round pick. Just make sure the kid has a team option in the second year, OK Morey?

Dorsey is a beast. He'll be contributing for the Rockets this season.

We've seen what an intimidating force did to Gasol (KG)

Amare + Boozer continually lights it up against the Rockets.

    Oden is back next year.

Now ask yourself, who would you rather help guard these bigs out in the West:

    A: An undersized Hayes/Landry
B: An aging and slow Deke
C: A guy built like a tank in Dorsey, who's being compared to the next Ben Wallace?

If he can just keep us from putting Hayes on the floor than I will be satisfied. At least he seems like he can board and finish wide-open gimmie looks....that certain players (Hayes) blow 30% of the time because they can't dunk for whatever reason....

I also wanted CDR but if he isn't even a better prospect than G.Green then why waste a pick on him? I wanted Jordan, only because how often do you get to draft young athletic bigs like that? That's always worth a look in the 2nd round. But again, in Morey I trust.

I would have preferred CDR( obviously there had to be questions about his game translating to the league for him to drop to the 2nd round), but dorsey is a fine choice as well. he is a young ben wallace, who plays his butt off every night.

I like the trade because Batum was not going to help this year just not ready. My problem is we traded for a wing that is 6-9 and post man who is 6-7. Makes no sense to me that we traded for post player who is shorter than the wing player we got. Yes, Dorsey is long but he has no basketball IQ and his a thug who worked well at Memphis because all he had to do was throw down lob passes from his rose and CDR. I really don't see him contributing.

No, I would have rather had Chalmers. Dorsey is a questionable NBA player, IMO.

If Dorsey goes up against Oden again he will be schooled once again and will foul out.

I respectfully disagree, Dorsey has really polished up his game... that matchup will be very interesting now.

Yao would probably foul out Oden before Dorsey fouls out.

I don't get the anxiety here, and I agree with those that like the pick.

Look at the big picture of the draft. We had a very late first round pick, and ANYBODY in the late first round is a roll of the dice. We've seen the stats on how many of those guys turn into regular starters, or even decent bench players and it isn't that pretty.

So Morey took one dice roll and got us two rolls (with another new roll coming early 2nd round next year)! So there's no "disaster" in trading Batum, because his % probability of contributing in 3 years isn't that much different than Greene, and NOW you throw in a freak like Dorsey. So kudos. Morey multiplied bread, and it's a minor miracle.

I am a CDR guy, but I don't really blame the Rockets on that pick. If CDR pans out like I expect (contrary to people who are payed to analyze basketball, I admit), all the teams can have regrets. Adam Morrison, he is not.

CDR won't be terrible, but he's going to get schooled on defense.

why do people question if dorsey is an NBA player? he's chuck hayes on steroids. he rebounds, blocks shots, and defends the paint. he's 6'7 265lbs compared to hayes at 6'5 240lbs.
