Oh, I agree he starts out with the Vipers. But if he's got game, I think he will be given a shot to earn minutes with the big club, barring a major trade for a 3rd swingman. If we were to go to camp today, I really think he'd see an opportunity because BJax and Luther and not going to cut the mustard taking the backup 2 minutes and that's basically what we had last year. Unless we pull off a move for Artest, Miller, or some other star level 2/3, I expect Donte to get a shot at some run at some point next season, maybe not the beginning but at some point. If he rots away all year in the minors, he may not be much of a player, he may not have enough drive.
And then in the other video he said he models his game after Rashard Lewis. That's a lot closer to what he'll actually do on the court.
I hope i like what i see. He reminds me of a taller Micheal Finley when Finley was younger which i could live with that too.
i'm so happy right now. Its nice to see the rockets pick up someone who has the chance to actually be really good down the road. Lately we've been picking guys who lack his two biggest attributes (size and atheleticism) for guys who are more one dimensional like Head and Novak. WE WERE NOT GOING TO GET SOMEONE WHO WOULD HELP RIGHT AWAY. We could have picked up CDR but 2 yrs from now everyone is going to love this kid. And please stop comparing him to Novak, I Know alot of people love Novak and his shot but his atheleticism is terrible. People try to throw out Kapono and Korver and say "see their not atheletic either" but they are still much more atheletic than him. He has the atheleticism and handle of a center and plays defense like a PG
I like it because we needed someone else that will shoot mid range shots rather than having 4 out of 5 Rockets waiting behind the 3 point line for a pass they're just gonna shoot as soon as they touch it. Last i looked mid range shots have higher percentages than 3 pointers.
Strange, at first he reminded me of Kirk Snyder, then I thought he looked like a young Michael Finley.
like others have said, he is actually more of a shooter and he tends to fall in love with the outside shot, which is a concern.
This is the player I wanted the team to select all along so I'm quite happy. Not only does Greene have lottery-level talent, but he's quite intelligent as well. I can see him developing into the spacing SF we've been wanting to compliment Yao in the post. Eventually, he will be able to drain open 3's, score off the dribble on pullup's and fakes, and run in transition. His game reminds me of Walt Williams a bit, with maybe less fancy passing and a slightly better J. My only concern in his game down the road is whether he will be able to move laterally on D against the quicker 3's in the league.
Keep in mind though, that was also the Portland work out. Portland wanted Batum. So, clearly, those are just a couple of highlights.
I would be fine with that. I'd rather him be in the NBDL getting minutes than riding the pine watching the game.
imagine in the near future.. line up of: Rafer Tmac Greene Landry Yao Pretty solid if Greene can mature quickly
