Hill Country BBQ on 26th b/w Broadway & 6th. Fette Seuw(sp?) - Fat Sow esentially - in Brooklyn. Both have better BBQ than anything in Houston. Rub is decent. Jimmy's is overrated. Dinosaur is okay but for the trek you have to make for it not really worth it.
i'm gonna need some sort of verification on that claim... i just have a very hard time believing that a couple of NYC establishments have "better BBQ than anything in Houston." that's like saying NYC has better chinese food than anything in shanghai.
Just got back from NYC. We had brunch at Public. Very good food - good service, casual place. Also - 3 contestants on last Top Chef had worked in that kitchen. Casual Asian Fusion - Spice Market, in the meat packing district. Everything I had was good.
I only asked if the person had ever tried BJ's. never really recommended it. I moved approximately one year after Dinosaur opened, so I 'll have to check that one out. however, I agree that the jazz at Blue Smoke is a good compliment to decent BBQ, and that yes, Dallas BBQ is God-Awful. as far as regular Mexican, Mary Ann's is decent. the original poster, and everyone else in NYC for that matter, needs to try Blue Ribbon. it is a gem.
The people that started HC BBQ are originally from Lockhart and the sausage is flown up from there. It's also the only place in NYC where you can get Lone Star, Big Red, Tito's Vodka, and Blue Bell ice cream under one roof. BBQ here in Houston sucks ass. When texas Monthly rates your city's 2nd best BBQ joint to be Goode Co. you know you have issues. My opinion is purely subjective of course, but given this, I would take either of the two places in NYC I mentioned over anything here. And whoever mentioned Blue Ribbon Sushi is spot on - that place rocks. Also, for great upscale Greek seafood go to Milos. You won't be disappointed.
Brother Jimmys rocks. My coworker owns 5% so I might be biased. Fancy and yummy: Mas Farmhouse Blue Hill Babbo Telepan Asiate all of those kick ass.
