In ESPN's current sportscenter poll the question is: Who is the best 'dog' in sports?
And the possible choices are:
Fred (Mad Dog) Carter
Orel (Bulldog) Hershiser
Curtis (CuJo) Joseph
Fred (Crime Dog) McGriff
Glenn (Big Dog) Robinson
Mo (Hit Dog) Vaughn

Aren't They Forgetting Mario (Junk Yard Dog) Elie.

I am now hereby boycotting ESPN. No more sportscenter for me I am switching to CNNSI. Who's With Me?

I've now decided to end my current self-imposed ban on the cable channel ESPN.

Mario deserves no props.

Why is everyone so sour about the Junk Yard Dog?

Does nobody here remember the great kiss of death shot as well as his other great plays to help the Rockets win back to back championships.

He was a ROLE PLAYER. The other people on the list were stars at one point. ROLE PLAYERS aren't as famous as STAR PLAYERS. Plus that junkyard dog nickname only caught on locally, so don't sweat it.

Mario gets no love from me. He of the tag-along championships. Mario could be in the junkyard or the kennel, but he'll always be a dog to me.

Elie reminds me of them cartoon dogs, the one that follows the big dogs, but deep inside he knows he's nothing but a punk. I think that describes him to a T.

three words: KISS OF DEATH! what short memories you guys have. The Rockets would not have won either title without Mario. They wouldn't have won them without Hakeem or Sam or Horry either, because they were a freaking team. Elie played sick D, got to open spots and scored, drained clutch 3s, and provided a hell of a spark. Yeah, his stay here ended badly and I was disappointed in how he and the team handled it. But he still has my respect and he has 3 hard-earned rings. JYD deserves every Rockets fan's appreciation.

If it weren't for Mario we also wouldn't have lost so many games two years after the kiss of death when he decided to stop playing well. All he did was complain to refs and miss threes that season.

No props.

I am kind of with fromobile on this one. Yes I remember all the great shots and all the great things he did for this city and team. The reason for being so sour on him is that after the failed Stoudanire debacle he decided to quit on the team. He lost all intensity except when griping to the reporters about how he does not think he will be with the Rockets the following season. He is not however the reason we lost that year, everybody played a part in that. Vernon helped us win championship #1 but quit on the team. The last memories you have of a player on your team are the hardest to replace and the hardest to forget.

JR,

The first year the Rockets won, Elie hardly even played. He was buried so deep on the bench that he only got in about 15-20 minutes a game.

Granted the 2nd Championship he was huge, then he just became a clubhouse cancer.

yeah, he is a dog now, a jester in tim duncan's court. that punk drained the last second 3 last yr at the alamodome to ruin barkley's monster game, which of course, i was in attendence. if anything, i'm mad at him for not beating down danny ainge for "accidentally" throwing an inbounds fullcourt pass into his eye back in the day. so that just proves that theyre both punks...though ainge get props from me for being a creative coach and interesting color analyst.

Unlike Vernon Maxwell, I respect Mario Elie for what he did here.

Yeah, he was a blubbering crybaby his last (and worst) season here, but he gave so much on both ends of the court while he was here. How many times did he break his wrist? Three? (That's why I don't want Jalen b****ass Rose!)

I'm still with you, Elie. Incidentally, I also still love Mad Max.

I wonder, if you did a survey, what the relationship would be between people who hate Elie and people who wish Dream was traded to Toronto would be.

Good 'ol JYD...brought us the Kiss of Death. He brought us the Quit of Death too, perhaps the precursor to the bigger quiter, er, Quitten.

Zero props.

Juan, I'm estatic that Elie is not on our team anymore. If the Dream talks would have been mid-season, and he then quit on the team, I'd almost have the same opinion on the matter.

The difference is that Dream is our franchise, Elie isn't.

The fact that you even compare the two is sickening.

I'm sick of people bringing up the Kiss of Death. Sure, it was a great shot, that got us to San Antonio. But, if I had a wife, my first love, and we spent 5 glorious wonderous years together, and she slept with my best friend, then I'd say f*ck her. Sure the 5 years were great, but that doesn't excuse the fact that she cheated on me, nor does it mean I can't hate her.

R95 --

What if you tried (unsuccessfully) to trade her in for another woman, found out the other woman wanted someone better, forcing you to take your wife back, and then she cheated on you. Would that be okay?
