If you have any interest in the controversy surrounding the untimely death of Len Bias, I highly suggest this article. There are a lot of details that I never heard before.

    A bit of a warning...it's long.

Len Bias was a beast. Every once in a while you can catch an old Maryland college basketball game on espn classic and see how good he was. It's a shame what happened to him.

I doubt it, a single player doesn't win championships. Look at Garnett, I imagine if he had OD'ed like Bias the Minnie fans would be bemoaning how great they would have been if he were still alive.

    huh??

the Celtics won the title the same year Bias died. Bias would have been an addition to a 3 time title winning Celtics team with Bird and McHale in their prime...with Johnson, Parish and Ainge as well.

Damn cocaine... what a pointless drug.

I could have seen something more than just the Dino Rajah years. Luckily my fam moved to Houston and I got to see the Hakeem Olajuwon years.

To think of it. The draft first pick to Boston was probably rigged.

wow, its a powerful story. And its much more than what could the celtics have been. Those hypothetical questions are nice but the article really struck at the heart of the matter, which was the tragedy of the lifestyle surrounded by cocaine and the way society reacted (in both positive and negative ways) and lastly the irony of some of the events that transpired after his death.

Its an absolutely horrible story and I hope everyone can take away much more from this than a simple question about how the celtics could have been?

I just wonder if he hadn't died, if he'd be considered the best ever.

Dude had game out his butt and would have challenged Jordan for the East almost every year.

    Yeah, me either. :(

Yeah, if he would have been what they expected Boston probably would not have lost for the next 5 years. They had just won the title and he could have kept them from relying on Bird and McHale so much. And to get tutored by Bird....

Sad story, but I just don't like how something like this can be considered "innocent".

Yep. What a player. He was my favorite player until his passing. I moved to Houston shortly after and became a Rocket fan but I will always remember Reggie Lewis as the guy who really got me into the sport. His pull up jumper was as good as anyone to ever play. He also raised his game for the playoffs every year.
