http://sports.espn.go.com/nba/draft...=MockDraft-080623&lpos=spotlight&lid=tab1pos1 The Ford has us going with: 25. Donte' Greene Position: SF Height: 6-9 Weight: 221 Age: 20 School: Syracuse The skinny: This seems like an unbelievable fall for a player with as much upside as Donte' Greene. Indeed, teams like the Kings and Warriors will look at him in the lottery, and likewise for the Raptors in the mid-first round. But if he slips past them, he could be on a free fall. He's a great shooter with upside, but he's not ready yet. Feigen said this guy would be a good fit for our team... http://blogs.chron.com/nba/2008/06/feeling_a_draft_what_the_rocke.html 54. Houston Rockets Shan Foster | SG | Vanderbilt Foster is a lights-out shooter, but the rest of his game is a little one-dimensional.
I would be awesome if Donte Greene fell to us, but its highly unlikely. What has Chad Ford been smoking...he has Love going #9.. Mario Chalmers going #12..Eric Gordon going #5... DeAndre Jordan going #28..
agree with egghead. this looks like a shake up some controversy to get people interested mock draft. radical changes from all the previous ones. but, if Donte Green was available at 25, I say snatch him up. I think I'd rather have him than Rush. Anyone else? He can shoot and his size and is at least a decent athlete. Good combination
i think it's entirely possible that greene slips. he hasn't proven himself as a lotto pick and the rest of the mid-first round are really looking for bigs. all it will take is one or two teams to pass on him and hell be in a free fall.
Greene is a project despite the fact that he can already shoot the ball. When I watched him he never appeared to have the lateral quickness and agility to defend NBA SG's so he's most likely a 3/4 cross. Basically, a poor man's Rashard Lewis right now. Definitely a guy worth considering but if Morey's comments about taking an NBA ready guy with less upside are indeed accurate, don't expect players like Greene to be considered.
I would be blown away if Greene fell in the rockets lap while standing pat at #25. You have to consider both Greene and Mareese Speights as huge upside guys that have some extremely good productive numbers for the short time they have been in college. Getting either one of those guys in my opinion would be a major coup for the rocket franchise. Both those players give them something that they currently don't have. Greene can play the 3/4 with serious range and Speights can play the 4/5 with real size and the ability to score out the block.
If you read Ford's notes leading into his mock, he states that teams are placing a greater emphasis on production as opposed to potential in this draft. That's why players like Green, Jordan and Anthony are sliding in his mock. Realistically I can't see players with this kind've size and potential sliding to the extent Ford indicates given the extensive history of teams reaching for size...but I guess time will tell if theres been a sudden shift in the collective MO of draft day strategizing. ...if the trend holds true, I wonder how much Morey's well documented stat-geek/money ball approach has to do with it...thats pretty high praise if GMs are so ready to jump on the bandwagon...
The mock draft has the Rockets passing on DeAndre Jordan... Who would yall rather have Donte Greene or DeAndre Jordan? Both are not NBA ready....DeAndre is from Houston.
I think if Donte Green started falling, the Rockets would try to move up a little bit to be sure he fell far enough, maybe 2-3 spots
The more I read about the top 30 players in this draft the move I value their desire. Out of that 30 there are maybe 5 or 6 that are said to be physically weak but 20 or 25 are glowingly written up for their basketball skills. But you know there aren't 5 future allstars in this draft, 10 future starters, or 20 siginificant role players. If I were at these workouts I would want the guy that goes balls out to crush the guy he's working against. You get comments in the reviews like, "showed excellent conditioning" or "has a ready NBA body" and on the negative side "there are questions about his desire, but you never read "was frothing at the mouth" ,"got into a scuffle after a hard foul" ," went hard after every rebound and loose ball" Given a selection between players of about the same skill level, I want the guy that's the natural born killer; that wants to beat any other player on the court. Most all of the great players have that, is it so hard to predict?
I don't expect either of those guys to be available come our pick. But I'd go with Greene, this kid has a ton of talent and potential. DeAndre isn't shabby either but he has a ways to go before he can contribute at C in the NBA.
I'm not knocking any of the stuff, i'm just wondering who has a higher grade, Gerald Green,Donte Green or Outlaw? I mean if you graded G. Green or Outlaw as high as Donte, wouldnt it make more sense to trade for outlaw or just sign g. green and use the pick as trade bait or another player?
The problem i have from watching film of Alexander is that he's a straight line driver. He has problems changing direction which could be a problem in the nba. He kinda reminds me of nachbar.
v7.0 has the Rockets taking Marreese Speights from Flordia. http://sports.espn.go.com/nba/draft2008/columns/story?columnist=ford_chad&page=MockDraft-080626
