Whatever happened to the $5 million trade-cap exception from the Hakeem trade?

When the Rockets gave up Hakeem for a simple draft pick, the only incentive in the deal to me seemed that they were recieving a $5 million or so exception to the salary cap difference clause when making deals. The way I saw it was if the Rockets wanted to trade a player with a small contract (Kenny Thomas?) for a player with a larger contract, they could use the clause to avoid having to come up with cap fillers as long as the other player's salary wasn't more than 5 million bigger than ours. Maybe we used it in that Kevin Willis deal, but I never heard anything about it...have y'all?

I'm pretty sure we used that exception when we traded Anderson for Rice.

didn't rice come after hakeem was already traded? i can't remember for sure, but that would make sense. i thought that was a sort of sign and trade deal though, with anderson ending up making around what rice makes...???

Teams can't have cap room and exceptions.

We were under the cap, and renounced our exceptions, so they turned into pure cap space.

I think part of it was used in the Willis trade. We were the middle men who facillitated (Clutch - please put in a spell checker) the trade. Isn't tht why we got Willis for nothing. I think the rest expired.

If somebody professes to know better, I would tend to believe them.
