Imo, the ps3....It has blue-ray and 360 has a very high failure rate...I sold mine to a guy off of here like 2 months ago. If you plan on using it to watch movies and get on the internet then the 360 doesn’t compare.

Oh yeah the 360 is very loud when you cut it on. It runs like an old car with a dirty muffler.

I once saw a guy at Best Buy talk a customer out of a Blu Ray player. Fed the old fool all this HD DVD mumbo jumbo. 2 weeks later HD DVD was dead.

Uhhhh... 360s have ridiculously high failure rates. I know many people with 360s that got the RROD multiple times. I know no one who's had issues with the PS3. And, just personally, I've had my PS3 for over a year, and my 360 for a month. I've already had more problems with the 360. Zero issues with the PS3.

If anyone actually tries to argue the PS3 is more unreliable than the 360, well... tell them to step right onto the short bus back to Best Buy.

Yeah with what you are looking for right now. The 360 is cheaper and their online play is a whole lot better than ps3. But as for as reliability goes, its not even close. I know tons of people whose 360 has broken down and I really haven't heard anything about the ps3. I've had my ps3 since launch and I haven't had a problem yet.

I have a PS3 but feel that I am completely impartial but this technician sounds like he has no idea what he is talking about. I have 4 real close friends who have 360s and 3 of them have died.

    Pros of PS3:
    Blu-Ray Player
Good exclusive games (MGS4, Resistance, Final Fantasy, Socom, God of War)
    Free On-line play

    Pros of 360:
    Better selection of games overall
Good exclusive games (Halo, Gears, Ninja Gaiden)
    User friendly on-line capabilities

my 360 went out twice, but they fixed it twice. not that big of deal if you are not a video game addict.

its not like your PC or laptop going down, that would be bad.

For what you listed as important, both consoles would offer pretty much the same experience. Some of their minor differences are the only thing that differentiates them in this case, which would include things such as reliability, free vs subscription online play, system noise, media capabilities, $350 vs $400, etc. Maybe you could just flip a coin. ;)

or he can just wait til the systems get cheaper
or he doesn't buy ANY systems and just go over to someone's place to play.

instead of new console, get a decent sound system.

One time when I was buying a surge protector/power backup, I had a guy at Best Buy feed me a load of garbage. He was the most confident sounding person in the world but his answer to my question didn't pass the common sense test. I created a thread here and some guys verified my assumptions were correct.

Some of these clowns at Best Buy do a disservice to customers. Whenever going there or Fry's, you better know what you want, or else.

Sometimes a company like Sony, Microsoft, Samsung, etc... will hold special contests in store where employees get benefits for selling a certain number of their products. Not sure if BBuy participates in those contests but I would think so.

Again, I don't know how true what he told me was. The guy could have told me PS3's cause breast cancer, for all I know. Just saying i'm partial to Xbox and if his claim was even remotely true then that's bad news for PS3 gamers.

    Since this is the D&D.

I should give a more serious answer to pay homage to the D&D faithful.

Since this is his FIRST YEAR at UT. He should DEFINTELY NOT play video games.

Learn from us oldies. What you want to do is open new circles of friends.
its really easy to just hang out with the people you knew back in high school, but in order to grow as a person, you need to try new things and definitely meet new people.

look he wants to play games, there are plenty of people with game systems. its a perfect time in your life to try new things and new hobbies. Hell, you might even change your major.

Cmon man you're going to be a freshman at UT, the only games you should be playing are adult ones with girls in real life. Get out there and meet some new people. Austin is an awesome city that's filled with attractive woman. Don't get me wrong, I'm a video game enthusiast, but the hoes should be your secondary concern after getting good grades.
