Okay, I was wrong about Italy vs. Spain...expected Italy to win it in penalties.

You gotta be thankful that Spain won it though.
Finally, let's get back to free flowing footy with beautiful passing and some goals.

Thank you Spain. I'm so glad I was proven wrong.

I could not help but think of your post the entire match, especially the later the game went.

Well, for us Germans, Russia or Spain are a much more convenient opponent than Italy (provided we manage to get by Turkey). I agree that Italy should not have been rewarded for their style of play. I just feel a bit bad for Luca Toni.

I know Buffon is a great goal keeper, arguably the #1 in the world, but he never struck me as a good PK saver, what gives. His presence at goal line is not threatening, and he doesn't put fear into the kicker. Guys like Rustu, not as good a keeper as Buffon, puts fear into the kicker. I think Casillas did that for Spain tonight.

    So happy for Spain... finally!

That out of the way, Guiza was a poor sub for Aragones. Spain lost some creativity when Torres went out. And for every decent play Sergio Ramos makes, he makes about 6 stupid ones.

Aside from the obviously flopping from the Italians though, they put 5 or 6 on the back line and just squeezed, phenomenal defense from the Catanaccio's today.

Could be a good semi with Spain and Russia, but it might also be a repeat of earlier, too. A Germany-Spain final would be a fun one to watch.

Wow that was a helluva boring game...Thank God it ended. And someone please tell me why guys like Silva, Iniesta and Senna are starting over freakin Cesc Fabregas who is an amazing passer and would be perfect along with Villa-Torres.

Senna is a defensive stalwart, he's there to hold the line in the midfield not sure about the other two.

Blame the Italians for the boring game, they play such a defensive minded game that it's impossible for anyone to really get going against them....

Germany vs. Spain should be the final, BUT I would not bet against Turkey or Russia....

I'm still trying to get over us losing against Russia. Unbelievable. Completely outplayed but also crucially out coached. I still don't know what went wrong.

Mate, I believe that is the norm with Sergio Ramos.

Several of my friends in Germany said that they were sad that Holland went out, because they played such great football before.

That being said...time to change your signature!

hahaha, yes I should do this soon.

Such a sharp rise only to fall so painfully. It really hit me hard! I guess I need to keep supporting Hiddink, though it did hurt me to see him celebrating goals against Holland! Of course it was his job...aaargh. Really it's over for another two years, if we make it to the World Cup 2010. The orange fever is over for now...

I think it was a big big hit that Robben could not play.

I think that if Hiddink were the Dutch coach, your team could be really, really dangerous for the next world cup...lots of very good young players.
