Did anyone watch the premiere last night? The show is about 3 rigs in West Texas all competing to see who can find the most oil in 50 days. The rigs are all within a mile of each other and the main characters are the day driller and 3 of his roughnecks. It seemed to me like full of crap. I've been on a few rigs myself and I have never seen the amount of safety violations, or simply lack of safety in my life. I did not even know chain whips are still used? Every rig I have been on have had an "iron roughneck," which basically replaces the chain and is much safer. Anyway I'll probably watch it because I'm a sucker for shows like "Deadliest Catch," "Ice Road Truckers," etc.....
I love Deadliest Catch but I wasn't interested in the least by this particular show from the previews. The complete isolation and tumultuous weather are two of the biggest appeals for DC...if I want to see people working and sweating in West Texas I can just drive a couple hours and go see it.
I too love Deadliest Catch, so I thought I would take a look at Black Gold. I dunno, it's not quite as interesting. After a while the only thing I was watching for was for somebody to get hurt, so I decided to turn the channel.
wonder if people in alaska think the exact opposite lol. didn't watch black gold but i do watch deadliest catch. Hanson's brothers boat is the best... dunno the name of it.
The Northwestern . I love that show . Its looks super nice in 1080 . I watched Black Gold and it wasn't all that cool IMO . I would rather watch something about underwater welders or something , lol .
Yeah for some reason Comcast in Houston doesn't have Deadliest Catch on the DiscoveryHD channel...only standard digital. So I don't get to see DC in 1080i. Kinda sucks cause I bet it looks pretty good. Then again the show is shot in HDV, not true HD. So though it is 1080i and all, it's not as nice as something shot in HDCAM.
A second cousin of mine (my mom's first cousin who we were very close to) died on an oil derrick in southwest Oklahoma back in 1982. So, I obviously have a weird interest in this show. I need to start watching all these shows. I've only caught episodes of Deadliest Catch and Ice Road Truckers here and there and regardless of their accuracy, they are very entertaining shows.
Yeah, that's true . Some of the shows on HD Theater's Club 1080 look super nice , I believe most of those are shot with HDCAM . BTW, they showed Black Gold on TNTHD tonight, it looked a lot better than it did on tru tv .
Bump. Finally watched the premiere last night and I really liked it. I went ahead and added it as a season pass. Growing up in Texas (and spending a little time in West Texas), you get so used to seeing drilling rigs everywhere but you never understand how they actually work. I like this better than Ice Road Truckers. IRT's seemed to portray the job as more dangerous than it actually was. I like this show better, even though I liked both.
I thought it was hard to get one of those jobs because of the danger, the short working season, and the high pay. I didn't think they were recruiting or just handing them out but I could be wrong.
I have to check out this show. I work at an oil company and we have rigs all over the country. We stress safety here, so I am surprised they don't on the show. Maybe it is a smaller company who doesn't give a f.
