A thread I wanted to start for a long time to help us see who and why we would trade certain players on our teams. Here's mine. The only way I would trade away Yao is ..... 1. straight up for Lebron with Lebron agreeing to max extension. 2. for Dwight Howard and Rashard Lewis. 3. for Tyson Chandler and CP3. 4. for Dwill and Boozer. The only way I would trade away McGrady is ....... same as Yao. The only way I would trade away Shane Battier is............ if we had already acquired another defensive 2/3 that could do what he does. This would have to be an experienced player, not a draft pick, somebody like James Posey/Raja Bell/etc.. The list is pretty short here. If we had a defensive type 2/3, I would be okay with trading Battier in a package for another player. Or if we could trade Battier in a package for a player like Vince Carter, Richard Jefferson, Mike Dunleavy (Eastern Conference), I'd do that deal, provided we had acquired another veteran 2/3 that could defend and play 25-30 minutes backing up both McGrady and our other starter. Under no other circumstances would I trade Battier. The only way I would trade away Luis Scola would be...................... if we could acquire a superstar point guard by trading away him, Rafer, and BJax for say Billups, or a re-signed Arenas and we could move up in the draft to get a young, big, athletic PF like Anthony Randolph. The only way I would trade Rafer would be ..............if his salary could be included in a trade for an upgrade at the point position, say Hinrich, or Devin Harris. Or I would trade Rafer if we had already made a trade for a point guard like one of these that was obviously going to supplant Rafer as starter. The only way I trade Landry would be................... in a S&T if we absolutely have to but we've got to get major talent back such as Charlie Villanueva or somebody of that ilk. The only way I trade BJax, Luther, Woods would be................. in a heartbeat as a part of any deal to bring back a 3rd prime time scorer behind 111. The only way I trade Brooks would be................. if we had already acquired a backup PG like Kyle Lowry and we could trade Brooks to move up in the draft or as the key in a deal for an all star player such as Ron Artest.
I'm too lazy to go through all of that, but I'll do a couple. I would only trade T-Mac for: 2 all-star caliber players (Billups, Prince) (Billups, Sheed(expiring)) (Bosh, Calderon) or 1st or 2nd pick in draft and expiring contracts (Marion) straight up for any of Lebron, Kobe, D. Howard, Paul, KG, Duncan, Stoudemire, Wade, Boozer, Durant, Roy, Josh Smith, Carmello, Kevin Martin I would only trade Yao for: D. Howard C. Paul Stoudemire Lebron Kobe Al Jefferson and Minnesota's 1st Round 3 all star caliber players Wade and Miami 1st Round Chicago 1st, Gordon, Noah Battier with expirings: for anything that would give us a legit 3rd Scorer with decent defense swingman or combo guard.
The only way I would trade away Head is.... if some kid in kindergarten had two milk cartons and wasn't gonna drink the second. And anything better than that.
Not for me. Howard doesn't draw the double team. If a guy can draw a double team, you don't trade him for a single guy that can't draw a double, you trade him for two guys or for another guy that can draw a double. Yao is the better player and he will be the better player next season unless Howard's game evolves to the point where he is a threat from further away from the basket than 6 inches.
Yao's range does not extend to the bench, which is where he is for 30 games a year. You guys are severely underestimating how much injuries matter. I thnk most GM's would much rather have a guy who scores 17 for 80 nights a year than a guy who scores 20 for 50. Do the math and you'll see why
I don't think Olando would want Yao at this point. I just want to say when I watched Lakers play in the final, I kept thinking if Yao were in Gasol's position, he would being eating Pekings, Powe, and KG alive. Each of them would have been fouled out by the 4th quarter. How many true low post threat are there in the league right now? Some of us are spoiled by Yao and take it for granted.
Yao for Rashard and Dwight? I don't think that's even close to possible financially. The two make nearly 40 million a year.
That would be a MASSIVE gain...Yao is officially more injury prone than T-MAC...and D. Howard was a beast in the playoffs
I was thinking the same thing. I love Yao but I would trade him in a heartbeat for Howard. Its like Trading Tracy for Lebron.
Yao Ming is our Franchise player, no rocket fan would want to trade him . Tracy is in the final stages of his peak years and will then decline or change his position. Possible to make a good trade but don't kill the team by bringing Wallace from Detroit under any circumstance. Battier should be available for a trade to get us Ron ....., who will be under control with Coach A at the helm. Everyone else can be used to improve the team if needed. Although I see only a couple of major changes before next season, where Morey tries to keep the basic elements together, so that the team can build chemistery for another season together. Forcast-Gone -Battier,Woods, Head, Jackson,Landry and Brooks : We get a Point Guard, Barbosa and Ron Ron!!
you really think those teams would trade those players for yao or tmac, who are both injury-proned? yao hasn't proven he's a franchise player and you're asking for more than ONE franchise player (outside of the lebron's scenario) and he's also injured. tmac is approaching 30, injury-proned, AND has a large contract. keep wishing buddy.
howard draws A LOT of double teams, watch orlando games please. however, he doesn't have yao's post game.
yao is the "FACE" of this franchise internationally b/c he's very well-known. but he's not our franchise player (BIG DIFFERENCE) you don't win 60% of your games consistently with your franchise player sitting out 40% of the season the past few years. can we do that with tmac sitting on the bench? you see the spurs, lakers, cavs do that without their franchise players?
yao: yao + jackson + 25th pick for bogut (extended) + redd + 8th pick (based on lakers-miami shaq trade, two all star calibre or with all star potential players + first round pick) t-mac: mcgrady + alston for nash + diaw + 15th pick battier: I see Battier as the Rockets best trading piece, package him any which way without giving up Yao, T-Mac, and Scola, to attain a big three lineup.
