Okay guys. I got a question I figured I would run by you intelligent cluthfaners out there. I kinda wanna have a general idea of whats going wrong before i take my car in the shop. About 3 weeks ago I noticed my AC started blowing out warm air whenever I was idling at a stop light. This was a little cause for concern, but nothing was immediate. Well Today I am waiting in the whataburger drive thru line getting a number 4 and my engine is tempture is compltley on red and is boiling out of control. I park it and let it sit for awhile then get back in and everything seemed fine again. I checked the coolant level and I believe everything is alright. Would any of you have any guesses at all as far as what would be the source of either of these problems? Are the connected? Any advice would be greatly appreciated by the way I drive a 2000 Jeep Grand cherokee, been a great car, havent had to many issues with it. I did replace the water pump about 3 years ago I believe. Thanks Guys
Had this problem like a b**** on my old car. It could be that the thermostat is broken or missing, so it doesn't know when to insert the coolant. It makes your car overheat when you're at a stop..take it to the shop to get it looked at.
It could also mean one of your radiator tubes is cracked or leaking..or you could have a cap leak on your radiator, or you could just have a normal fluid leak. Best not take it to somewhere like Firestone or they'll milk you dry of money.
Your car is overheating. Could be cause by several problems. Better stop driving on it and get it fixed before it becomes a major major problem. Water is getting into the engine somehow. Once you notice that temperature level rise, you should stop driving immediately.
If it is only doing so while you are idling, its either the cooling fan motor or cooling fan motor relay. The relay is a cheap fix. Go to autozone and pick up a new one. Your owner's manual will tell you were to find it on the car. The motor can be pricey. Probably $200-$300 dollars.
I had a similar issue a long time ago. The fan clutch was the culprit. Replaced that and all was well.
At my job, we usually only run into 2 problems with those symptoms. 85% of the time it is you either have a plugged up or leaking hose, or your headgasket could be bad. Hopefully it is number one, cause a headgasket is expensive to replace. Good luck though dude
