While the Cavs are being incredibly insensitive to Z, I can completely understand why the Cavs are doing this. And I can also totally see (probably not succeeding though) the Rockets trying to do this in the future with Yao. It's a bit of a different situation though, in that the Rockets have to kiss China's butt to ensure that relations stay good between them, so that they continue to allow Yao to play for us. I'm hoping that Yao realizes that he's done more than enough for his country, and that the choice comes from him that he wants to spend his off-seasons here, resting. Hopefully by the time the next Olympics roll around, Yao will be done with his CNT tour.
Are you guys nuts? I completely dissagree with this decision. Just because NBA is known worldwide as the best league in the world, its not ludacris to think that these players take it personal playing for their country. Like it states, could be his ONLY chance. This is a human we're talking about, let the man play if he wants to play, if he DOES get injured then be a manager and manage your team with his injury. Seems like they are choosing "financials" over letting Z do what he really wants to do.
Proper decision by the Cavs looking after their interest. Is there is much argument? It's been a while since Z has had injury problems, but he's 33 years-old now.
i blame z's agent for not putting a clause in his contract allowing this if it was really important to him. i mean that or he is responsible for the premium on an insurance policy....
it seems that the problem is finding insurance. i'm sure theres SOME insurance company out there for the right price.
Bad business, with that, Cavs can say goodbye to any prospective players outside USA to sign with them.
who cares. if these international players can't be loyal the interests of their employers, then give back the million dollar contracts and stay in xyz foreign country and play in their league including the olympics and enjoy your 6 yr long career playing year round ball............holy run on sentence batman. I wish Yao could cut the umbilical cord to china already
Having to play ball every off season is debatable (and I don't want to get into it). But, please start exercising your brain now. We are talking about a 33 years old basketball player who wants to take an arguably once in a life time opportunity to play for his country in the Olympics. What's up with the million dollar contract that you mentioned? Z is also a human and he also has the basic human right to try to fulfill something which can possibly be a life-long dream. And he tries to do that in the off season. Is he a human in your eyes? Does Z deserve the human right to make a free determination to play in the Olympics or not in your eyes? Geeze, I could never imagine a human being could be this moronic and insensitive like you.
You see Z as nothing more than a slave in your eyes. You see him as a piece of merchandise which is owned by a basketball team. You are plainly disgusting.
That's pretty classless on the Cavs part. I guarantee that if a NBA team didn't allow and NBA player to compete for the USA team people would be going crazy.
