The Democratic primary process that gave proportional delegates instead of swinging the entire state was seeming problematic and allowed for this protracted race between Clinton and Obama. However, I can also see it explaining the gap in satisfaction. McCain's victory is partly the result of the order in which the primaries were held and I can understand a lot of people not really feeling he's their candidate because of the high distortion in the selection process caused by voting by state. Democrats can feel a bit more secure that Obama really is the democratically-determined choice and be at ease claiming him as their candidate. Most of the country didn't even get to cast a vote that mattered in the republican primary.
