you don't need half life... cs is a mod that can be installed and is played on its own. you can buy it as a stand alone game. check ebay.

You guys of course realize that Counter Strike is far inferior to Team Fortress, right?

Alright, so I'm at this Download Wizard, and it's asking me which Half-Life I have, and of course I don't have Half-Life.

So is this when I decide that I have to go to a computer store to buy something?

Also which game would be the best investment, I don't want to buy one game, and then have to buy a brand new game later.

    So do I buy Counter-Strike or Half-Life?

Can I just buy whatever I need at that site?

I thought you needed Half Life to play CS and that CS was just a mod for it.

    Band Dweeb,

There's a Half-Life Game of the Year edition at Comp USA for $29.99. After that you can download then install counter strike as a mod into it. There are other versions out there that cost upwards of $40 and $50 that include the Counter Strike mod, but it's free and downloadable anyway, so why not just d/l it?

I agree. I'd much rather play Team Fortress. Long live pyros!

I hope all of you vote for me in the ClutchCity poster tournament, as I am providing a FREE server.

Don't make me take my ball and go home.

Oh my lord some of yall are clueless! BGM, go to the store and buy Half Life: Counter-Strike for like 15 bucks. You can play counter-strike now without having to download anything but the update! Then, you can download any mod you want to play for half-life if your heart desires.

True to form, I am a little behind the curve here when it comes to playing PC games. However, it now appears that I have my new pc up and running, and I also got Half Life working last night. All that remains is that I download the Counter Strike mod and I'm in business.

You guys still playing? If not, can I hook up to a game through Gamespy and learn the ropes, or do I have to know someone who has a server?

Having had a quick look around the single player version, it seems that CS is a VASTLY different game, just using the same engine.

    Anyway, I'm excited.

unfortunately due to lack of interest, the CC.net CS server has been decomissioned.

but once you log on to play CS, you'll find that there are literally thousands of servers to play on.

I've never played HL, but from seeing the box, yes, CS is a vastly different game. CS is played by teams (counter terrorists, CT's and Terrorists the bad guys) you pick a side and then depending on the map, achieve your goal, kill the enemy and win money to buy bigger and better guns! Maps have different objectives, some are demolition, hostage rescue or all out assault...

I still play until the wee hours of the morning. I love the map, fy_iceworld... it's just a straight, shoot em up, rush map.

    have fun,
    rH

Before you do that DaDak, I'd like to make sure we're gonna use it. If we could all agree on a time that we could play together weekly, then it would probably be worth it, otherwise, you're gonna have one person on there at a time wishing someone else to play with or a bunch of people who you don't know playing on your server. I think with all of us in different time zones, it makes it difficult for us to get together. I'm glad we don't have a clan, we'd never practice! hehe...

I usually play after 10pm CST.

Almost any time of the week is good for me. Except game nights. Unless it's after a game! In theory, it's a great idea, I'd love to play with my CC.net brothers, but in reality its just more difficult.

Dadak, if we do get it up and running again, could we use maps that are in the basic rotation? The noobs may not have maps like, Rio?
