kind of rough to watch. hard to believe that somebody could be in another league than federer on ANY surface, but nadal clearly is.

every point fed gets off of him is a struggle.

Second set has been more competitive. Still don't think Federer will win, but it doesn't look like he will be embarrassed.

It a shame the French still can't afford to pave that tennis court.

It is amazing what roger has done. It seems last three or four year either he has been the champ or lost to the eventual champ. I don't think anyone have ever matched what he has done.

I spoke too soon. Nadal is pretty much unbeatable on clay.

That girl Federer is playing in the clam diggers is one of the most talented female athletes i've ever seen.

what's interesting is while people will debate forever on if federer is the best tennis player of all time, nadal is pretty close to securing his legacy and place in history as the best clay court player of all time.

and wow...they just took the words out of my mouth as i typed this.

will be interesting to see nadal's reaction when he closes him out. it almost looks like he's starting to feel bad for federer.

on a side note, that stupid dropping down on their back with their hands on their head when they win is getting so annoying and overdone.

This is like Federer playing Roddick or something -- just unbelievable -- total clay court dominance.

I did not expect Federer to get purely dominated like that. Wow that was just total destruction. I would not be surprised if Nadal won wimbledon. In fact Nadal is closer to winning wimbledon than Federer is to winning the French.

I am hoping Djokovic breaks through at Wimbledon -- it sucks to be the third wheel, sort of.

He's got a bit of catching up to do overall but right now he's 2nd behind Nadal barely. Fed is in the rear view just about. It will be very interesting to see how Fed deals with such a beatdown come wimbledon if he has to face Nadal again.

Can anyone explain how Grass and Clay can make THAT much of a difference???

I cant seem to comprehend this because ive played football on grass and turf(i know its not clay) and all i have to do is wear different cleats in order to get the same performance i did on grass.

Clay slows the ball down upon impact, grass speeds it up.

Clay is a slow surface, Concrete is fairly fast, and grass is lightning quick.

Grass courts are faster and favors more of the serve and volley type of players, points are generally quicker. Think Pete Sampras (never won the French Open).

Clay courts are opposite; slower and favors more of the baseliner type of players, more long rallies and longer points. Think Nadal.

To add to the comments above -- the ball slides on grass and stays low/ flat -- clay 'grips' the ball and causes it to bounce higher and slower.
