all this talk of good BBQ has inspired me to fire up the smoker this weekend any wanna post or email some good smoking recipes, usually do ribs and chicken, wanna try something else, maybe its time for a brisket... give me some recipes and tips thanks Smeg
eh, I've been to ONE in the valley that served good bbq. of course it looked more like a tin shack than a "restaurant" ...
Here in Austin, I like Pok-e-jo's. I really like their sausage and banana pudding. When I used to play in bands around Brenham, 95% of the wedding that we played had catered BBQ and I'd load up at the end of the night when the caterers and hosts are giving out leftovers. My favorite caterer in that area was Herbert's. I love BBQ, it's too bad that it's so hard to really get it right.
I've been to a few around the valley, and they are all too dry and overcooked. The last one I tried was Longhorn BBQ on 77. So where was the tin shack joint - The one in PI?
you outa try rudys. Because of this thread, I ordered a half pound of fatty brisket. I live 2 minutes from one.
I like Rudy's for brisket. I think that the family prefers Rudy's. I just really like Pok-e-jo's sausage. I'm going to try Mann's as it's not too far away from where I live.
dude if you want sausage, go to Taylor, Louie Meullers. Get the Chipotle sausage. They use 100% beef.
Rudy's and Poke-Jo's both have excellent brisket. If you go on Thursday, you can get the Poke-Jo's brisket plate for $6.49, which comes with like 3 sides and Texas Toast. Tuesday's they have the turkey I believe. Try County Line for the beef ribs. They are excellent. There's also a place off Lamar next to the Tavern called House Park, that I hear good things about. May have to hit that one up before I move this month.
any good bbq spots between houston and centerville? heading out on a road trip and like me so good q. already had woody's and country cousins.
i've received first-hand reports that snow's brisket is in fact the best in texas. you can pre-order too, so if you'll be driving in that direction you can have your order ready to go w/o worrying about the brisket selling out.
I haven't had Rudy's in a long time, like over a year...No store near me...everything I drive from Houston to Dallas, I forget there is one on the way...The only one that iknow that is close to me is in Denton, and that's not close at all...
I don't understand the appeal of Rudy's - everyone hyped it up to me and I'm less than impressed. I still don't know how you can have that list without Salt Lick...I mean, not even the top 50? ridiculous...
you have to order the moist brisket, if you order the lean, then you're missing the point. the salt lick is great too.
Ramos B-B-Q (956) 386-1818 10801 N 10th St McAllen, TX I will say I'm not a guy who goes out to restaurants all that much ... but I paid 6 bucks for half a chicken plate, my wife 6 for a brisket plate, and we also got a huge ass baked potato frome there before and it was good food with generous portions imo.
I have ordered the moist brisket - I'm not saying its bad by any means, but I wasn't blown away by it. The thing most people talked up to me was their sauce and I didn't think it was very good. I prefer the sauce at Salt Lick or Lulling City BBQ (the one here in Houston)
