Seriously , all the hype that has surrounded this kid, but would u as fans ever consider some type of swap. It would def be a team like Memphis or NY, lets say they throw out Mike Miller, Brian Cardinal, #5 pick for Tmac+Alston. Some kind of combo. Im gonna get hated on so much for saying this , but i see Kobe type potential in OJ. I was just watching this special on ESPN.com about him, he takes the challenge of playing defense so seriously already. His jumper is 1000 times better than Tmac's. His ballhandling is good, but he needs to work on his first step as he does struggle a bit getting by defenders sometime, but he is a pure pg if he needs to be. People who say this is a rebuilding step, THINK AGAIN. This kid is ready to play now in the NBA, and if given say Tmac type minutes, I could see him averaging, 20 pts, 6 assists, 4 rebs his first yr. I think we really need to think about OJ Mayo as a possibility?

We probably ARE thinking of Beasley/Mayo as a possib.

BUT, I'm pretty sure the Bulls and Heat won't trade the super freshman.

Remember last year? Oden and Durant were NOT going to be touched.

You mean Beasley/Rose. They are not attainable for anyone outside of the the top 2 teams picking. Mayo may be able to be had for the right price. Is giving up McGrady worth that price? I don't think so.

But honestly, I would think about.... Sadly, that is how far McGrady has fallen.

I put it in the random trade thread, but I think the second pick could be had if the Rockets were willing to give up T-Mac. I would give up T-Mac and Scola for Blount, Marion (1 year expiring if he opts in) and the 2nd pick. Riley is too selfish to build for the future and T-Mac and Scola would make him an instant contender.

Marion, Blount, and either Rose/Beasley/Mayo would keep us competitive next year and give us the cap relief we need the following year with Marion off the books to pursue a real superstar to mix with Yao and the 2nd pick. We also solve our backup center issue.

    Morey won't trade T-Mac, though.

Um....yeah, you are. Agree to disagree. Tmac wasn't the problem this year. We won 55 friggin games! In a crazy season where every team in the west who went to the playoffs, all won 50 games!

Yao being out was the reason we lost the few other games we could've won. The streak was outstanding, but I honestly think we coulda pulled 58 wins. Yeah I said it. We woulda been the #1 seed, played scrubs like Denver/Goldenstate, and probably advance.

Why blow up the duo for this rookie? Sorry man, I'm with morey on this one. We're not looking for an upgrade in this draft. We're looking for upgrades via trades with someone whose proven in the league. And not at the expense of Tmac and Yao.

Now, if it was something like...bobby jackson, snt landry, our #25 pick for mayo + salary matching fodder, sure why not. NOT tmac though.

don't really know about all these trades popping up, but like LFE said, our stars are really not the problem. you've seen teams win with lesser stars.

it's our bench that is the main culprit for our lack of success.

and i do agree with the OP though, mayo has the most natural killer instinct out of all the incoming rookies right now. he took the challenge of rose on national tv and shut him down for stretches.

He may not have been the problem last season, but it can be argued that McGrady is declining quickly. Put that together with him always being injured, etc. You can put together a solid argument.

A convincing argument? No, not yet at least.

OJ mayo is 6'4 and isn't strong enough to compete with bigger and better SGs. Giving up Mcgrady and Alston...arguably our only shot creaters....we are setting ourselves up

He is a point, but USC asked him to play SG because of their lack of talent at that position. He says as much during a few interviews. He wants to play the point position.

Unless the kid is Magic Fricken Johnson then you can not take this chance.

So it doesn't bother u a guy went to 6 different high schools and left college after 1 yr? I worry about the kid being coachable not to mention he had a negative asst/to ratio. Mayo has hype/bust written all over him.

I see, there is not any risingspaces in Mayo, you can't put all your hopes in a SG who is undersize,6"3 or 6"4?It just funny to see how will be happen on him,it sounds really good that we finally get a young kid with normal level of health, without this point,he got nothing better than Tmac...Tmac will aways be the first choice at Houston's backcourt...... :)

what a steal, its basically the 2nd pick for alston. Perfect senario if that happens, imagine adding a lebron/wade/bosh to Yao and Mayo/rose.

OJ Mayo does not play team ball and if you watched USC games, then you already know he sometimes want to take on the other team by himself. He also needs a lot of touches as does TMac, but Tmac is more experienced in the NBA to know how to handle his touches than Mayo.

Also, if you are planning on rebuilding with Mayo and Yao, just know again that since High school, Oj has been the number star on his teams and is used to being the number one option.

He played sg in college and as such, thats the position a lot of people witnessed his strengths, we do not know how he will transfer these skills to playing pg because he is a scorer and not a distributor. The only reason he is also claiming he can play pg is cos he know since the influx of power pg's into the NBA, every team now needs an excellent pg.

I will trade anything to get him except TMac, Yao and Scola

Then get rid of Yao first as he's more injury prone than T-Mac. Tracy's back hasn't flared up after his visit with Dr. Patterson. He's had other nagging injuries, but I'll take my chances with those.

Yao on the other hand breaks down every year with his foot. If it happens again this season, the Rockets HAVE TO think about trading him, espically if he decides to keep going back to the crappy CNT every god damn summer.

As for now, let's see if we can upgrade our bench and role players instead of a drastic change with our superstars.
