http://www.breitbart.com/article.php?id=D912NTSO0&show_article=1 AP tally: Obama clinches Democratic nomination Jun 3 01:24 PM US/Eastern WASHINGTON (AP) - Barack Obama has effectively clinched the Democratic presidential nomination, based on an Associated Press tally of convention delegates. The tally put Obama over the top Tuesday, ahead of the results from the day's final primaries in Montana and South Dakota. The Illinois senator becomes the first black candidate ever to lead his party into a fall campaign for the White House. Obama outlasted former first lady Hillary Rodham Clinton in a historic contest and now faces Republican Sen. John McCain of Arizona for the presidency. THIS IS A BREAKING NEWS UPDATE. Allow me to bold and repeat this crucial sentence, which has been lost in the mix a bit due to the otherwise extraordinary circumstances of this campaign: The Illinois senator becomes the first black candidate ever to lead his party into a fall campaign for the White House. This is an historic day. Hallelujah.
There is some disagreement over this. Remember, the Supers don't actually vote until the convention... so nothing is clinched. Obama is trying to steal this by disenfranchising voters in FL/MI and now SD and Montana. Just sickening and repulsive. Anything but democratic. But believe me, I'd love a inexperienced, misogynistic, racially divisive candidate to represent the libs...
i thought it was pretty funny that right after they announced this on CNBC that the market started selling off.
I could see municipal bond prices shoot up on this news. As tax rates rise, then municipals with their federally tax exempt status become EVEN more attractive.
Thanks, man. And here's to a historic campaign by the first woman to win not just one primary but many. If not for Obama, she'd be the first woman president -- another milestone that can't come soon enough. I look forward to her being a major player on national health care, ending the war in Iraq, improving education, combatting poverty and all the other issues she advocated so passionately and successfully for during the campaign and for decades prior.
AP is calling it in a weird way, using "private" endorsements rather than only public ones. Nonetheless, it will happen today or tomorrow. Hillary's role will be crucial. I am not such a fan of hers when she is in 'campaign mode', but when she's not taking ill-conceived political stances on issues, she's gold - smart as s***. Hopefully her knowledge government and her strong moral compass will come out - we need the part of her that named her kid after a Joni Mitchell song to fly. Not just in terms of winning this election, but in terms of actually cleaning up messes like the war, health care, education. As history is written, Hillary will get hers, she's a more decent person than her husband, and she has a real opportunity to leverage her considerable political capital into legitimately repairing parts of this country that need it. And looking back, I think her political career has been very challenging - remember, she used to be regarded as a liberal feminazi uber liberal wack job, but has moderated herself to the point that people like me b**** that she has sold out. But finding that political 'voice', as a woman, was undoubtedly hard. If she had voted against the war resolution in 2002 - or, done what the Joni Mitchell Song psrt of her probably thought about doing, which would have been leading the charge against the reckless rush to war - she would be the nominee.
Great post as usual, Fan Club. I agree like crazy with everything you said about Hillary. In fact, those are largely the arguments I used to make in favor of her running for president. I also agree it was weird for the AP to call it when they did (why not last week or last month, by the metric they chose?), but the headline was so exciting, especially the sentence I bolded, that when they jumped the gun I decided to jump it with them. And I say again, Hallelujah.
This was pretty much inevitable when Obama took the lead among the Super Delegates. The way I looked at it was if Clinton could maintain a lead in the Super-Delegates and narrow the lead among the pledged Clinton still had a chnace. Once the Super Delegates shifted things were going to be done.

The timing of this announcement -- before polls close in SD and MT is voter suppression at its finest, folks. It's horrible, and quite typical of the unscrupulous Obama campaign. Enjoy your night of celebration.
One more time for those of us who supported Hillary Clinton. <object width="425" height="355"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/-Sudw4ghVe8&hl=en"></param><param name="wmode" value="transparent"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/-Sudw4ghVe8&hl=en" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" wmode="transparent" width="425" height="355"></embed></object> Just remember Taryn Southern actually wrote and sings the song unlike the Obama Girl.
