Anyone have a site where I can read about the history of MGS? If I do get it I want to put forth the full effort and get into the right mindset. I have owned played a MGS title in my life. I know right
This guy at NeoGAF went crazy and created an insane official thread for MGS4. I haven't really had the chance to read through all of it, but he does have a lot of info about MGS: http://www.neogaf.com/forum/showthread.php?t=303161 Gametrailers is also doing a retrospective on the franchise: http://www.gametrailers.com/game/6748.html They've covered the MG games, MGS1 (and spin-offs), and MGS2 (with spin-offs). Each segment has been about 20 minutes long. It hasn't been posted yet, but I think the last segment (MGS3) should be up soon, maybe in a few hours or so. It is a retrospective, so it won't cover everything, but it isn't a bad place to start. I'm guessing GameFAQs has the entire scripts of the games, as well as a plot summary and analysis. You could probably watch all the cutscenes on Youtube if you're really bored. I read through a lot of that earlier while ignoring the MGS4 stuff, and that guy literally went crazy creating that thread! Best one I've ever seen at neogaf.
I'd suggest playing the games instead of reading the story. It's just not going to have the same effect. Essentials is $30 and a pretty good bargain for all 3 games. If you still just want the story, I'm pretty sure www.metalgearsolid.org/ has all the videos/codecs for every game on there.
I forgot about MGS.org. That should be a great resource as well, once the repairs are done anyway. I do agree that playing the games would be a much better way to "experience" MGS. Watching cutscenes/codecs might come close, but then you still miss out on the gameplay stuff. The fourth MGS video at Gametrailers is up now. I was wrong about it being the last one though. There will apparently be two more (one for portable MGS games, and one for ???).
I guess I have some research to do ey. I doubt I could find the time to actually play the and beat all the games before MGS4 comes out. Although I could just wait until a later date, perhaps X-Mas-ish to get it. I guess it will depend on how good the online part of the game is. I don't like being behind when it comes to online.
