This is for the old heads that remember such things as going to the club and bbing on a friday night.
These are my favorite songs to bboy to back in the day, so it you don't like them, make up ur own poll, buddy!
You should had a vote for other. But of the ones listed, Jam On It was by far the most played song of that year on the R&B station I listened to in Milwaukee. One song I just recently found again was Beat Box by Art Of Noise. Everbody was popping to that song. And White Lines! How could you forget White Lines!!! That song is classic!

Great thread. All those songs bring back memories - for some reason, all these songs especially remind me of the skating rink. Used to live at the skating american down in lake jackson, TX.

Well, superman looked up at me, he said you rock so naturally!!!!!!!! What a song, man! lol The true bboys are going to pick planet rocket and they'd problem be made that I didn't list any James Brown songs. Like I said, these are my songs and you guys better be glad I didn't put rhythm of the night on there by El Debarge!
Beat Street Breakdown is all Melle Mel. Hard list. Back then I might have said Roxanne Roxanne but now I gotta go with Whodini. So no "White Lines"? Haha.
Who knew rimbaud was a bboy. haha. Can you do the windmill, rimmy? Also, I was going with the more perfect name. Back then, Mellie Mel was a part of the furious five. Shows you how things change, the deejay isn't the be all and end all, like they used to be. White lines blow awayyyyyyyy.
I wasn't arguing or anything, just giving Melle Mel his due. Can I do a windmill now? Trying would probably hurt me. Then? Not great but I could. Honestly I was a little young to really be good in that early 80's bboy scene but I was around it with older ones who could do the real stuff. I had a little mat/board I would "practice" on but it ended up dying for me later.
Also, for those that don't remember, frantic situation was the song that the NYC Breakers battled Rock Steady crew on in the movie Beat street. What a battle that was! Classic!
This song is still jammin' <object width="425" height="355"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/7c1_XmZdmUY&hl=en"></param><param name="wmode" value="transparent"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/7c1_XmZdmUY&hl=en" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" wmode="transparent" width="425" height="355"></embed></object>
I've been to clubs were the DJ mixes in some of those tunes. Not hip-hop clubs mind you, but indie hipster elctro ones. They've really aged well. We gotta give it up to Kraftwerk for making all this possible.
Somebody ought to put together an annual old school rap festival. I can't believe how these songs are never going to be heard live again. But most of these groups were one hit wonders I suppose. It would be so great to get these awesome songs together on one tour, this just begs to have a festival for these groups.
Jam On It by Newcleus FOR SURE!!! Diga-dang! <object width="425" height="355"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/7pWX46lJc1Y&hl=en"></param><param name="wmode" value="transparent"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/7pWX46lJc1Y&hl=en" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" wmode="transparent" width="425" height="355"></embed></object>
