It's interesting that McCain was saying that Obama can't know the facts about the war because he hasn't been to Iraq. Yet it's McCain who gets the facts wrong. The strange thing is that McCain is still claiming that he didn't misspeak. Does the guy just not know what's going on? I thought the war and foreign policy was supposed to be his strong suit.
That's because people can't differentiate between someone being an expert on military affairs (which McCain can be said to be one) and someone being well-versed in foreign affairs, which I'm starting to think more and more that McCain isn't. McCain didn't study foreign relations, it isn't really his strong suit. I'm willing to believe that Obama is slightly more knowledgeable about the world than McCain is. Now, it doesn't mean he's any better of a decision-maker (that's a matter of opinion), just that he's probably more informed about foreign relations than McCain is from an academic standpoint.
Interesting. I'm starting to get annoyed with McCain's campaign but it's still early. tigermission1, you said it well. From my standpoint, McCain is coming off as rather uninformed about world affairs. That is a shame for someone who's been in the Senate so long. If he isn't strong in foreign affairs and has already admitted to not being well-versed on economic issues, there isn't much left.
McCain ‘Nitpicks’ His ‘Verb Tense,’ Claims Troops Are Now ‘Drawing Down’ To Pre-Surge Levels» Last week, Sen. John McCain (R-AZ) inaccurately claimed that troops in Iraq are already down to “pre-surge levels”: This assertion was wrong. There are now 155,000 troops in Iraq — far above the 130,000 before the surge. McCain and his advisers quickly dismissed any criticisms of the statement, calling it a case of “nitpicking” a “verb tense.” They claimed that McCain meant to say that troops will eventually be drawn down to pre-surge levels. Last week, a reporter gave McCain a chance to correct his statement, asking, “Did you misspeak yesterday?” McCain replied, “Of course not.” Apparently, however, McCain is now acknowledging that he did misspeak. At a campaign event today, McCain “nitpicked” his “verb tense” and said that U.S. forces are currently in the process of drawing down to pre-surge levels: This assertion is still inaccurate. In February, Joint Staff director for operations Lt. Gen. Carter Ham testified that even after the Bush administration’s draw down, troops will still be higher than pre-surge levels: McCain is wrong, no matter which verb tense he’s in. http://thinkprogress.org/2008/06/02/mccain-pre-surge/ Guess it's just another "senior moment"
It's not another 'senior moment', more likely that he's ill-informed or isn't the detail-oriented type. I'm not sure who's briefing him, but either he's forgetful or he they aren't doing a very good job.
McCain is a great man -- a great senator, but he is not presidential material. He is terrible at pandering and when he starts flip flopping his positions it is just unbearable to watch or hear.
His knocks has always been that he's less detail oriented and more into categorizing things as black and white issues. Evils must be purged, such as big tobacco or campaign finance corruption, and the truth is on his side. That plus his anger made him a lot of buddies in Congress.
