Well apparent it was not the North or the South Pole. I personally think it was a stupid question. Here is the explanation given by my professor:

"Sorry this week's puzzler is a bit late. I had to think
    of a good one.

The answer to last week's puzzer required you to know a
bit of shherical geometry and geography. The puzzle
was (in a nut shell) to locate where my Uncle Werner's
camp was located. The clues were that it was on a rock
and by walking one mile S one mile E and then one mile
N you would get back to the camp. The most popular
answer was the North Pole... where, indeed, walking the
path does get you back to the north pole. However, the
North pole is in the middle of the Artic Ocean...so no
rocks! The south pole doedn't work either...you can't
go south from the south pole. So, where?

BUT! If you are a bit farther than 1 mile north of the
south pole...walking south puts you some distance R
from the pole. Walking east you circle about the pole.
So the camp is located on a somewhere on the ring
    circuling the south pole a distance D = 1 + 1/(2 pi n)
    miles north of the pole."

Here is this weeks puzzle. And I have no freakin idea what it is.

"This week's puzzler is tricky as well and involves a
recent trip I made to the hardware store. I needed to
buy something for my house, one cost $12, twelve cost
$24 and one hundred and fortyfour cost $36. What was
    I trying to buy?

Again as usual. The first 10 correct replies get 2
bonus points. Multiple tries will be accepted."

That's what I was thinking. But who'd believe me after the answer was said, right? :p

Did the prof have anything to say about which South Pole he was talking about? I think that's an important issue you must address with him. (I'm still very unhappy with that one).

As for the new one, it looks easy once you hear the answer.
