True but i personally think that more people would have taken the 7.5 for the Spurs because they figured it would be a close game.

The main reason being that Phil Jackson believes in developing their young players. Phil has no problem going with players like Sasha, Turiaf, Walton, and Farmar in playoffs. Couple of years ago, these players were scrubs. Phil invested in these players, and the playing time they earned helped to prepare them for what they are doing today.

While Phil was doing that, Mr. Gundy was making sure to go extended minutes with same old players he trusted. How did investing 4 years in Juwan Howard turn out?

Phil kept big picture in mind and is awarded with his his 11th finals appearance. Gundy, otoh, is doing commentary.

The biggest mistake Les Alexander ever made was not letting Gundy go and hiring Phil Jackson after Jackson had hinted he was interested in coaching the Rockets. Instead Les gave Gundy an extension. Ha!

I hate to be a broken record but nobody would think this if it weren't for the Gasol giveaway.

    i don't get your meaning.

ru suggesting that there is anomosity between West and Kupchak, the master and the pupil. i get the feeling that West was proud of Kupchak.

I hate to sound like a broken record, but the lakers were in first place when bynum went down. Take gasol away, put bynum back in, and they are still right where they finished.

    Get over it already!

Is it just me or are the Lakers slightly less hate-able now? Seeing the way Kobe dominated really showed that he deserves the MVP, and the rest of the team stepped in crucial times of the game. Right now, the Lakers are just fun to watch (at least better than the flopping Spurs or Jazz). However, that Gasol trade is still a little fishy to me.

I doubt it. Bynum isn't the offensive presence that Gasol is, and they hit #1 for a short while with him. Hell, we hit the #1 seed at some point in the season too, right?

I don't see this team being in this position without Gasol. It woulda forced Odom to remain as the #2 option. Gasol is really perfect for their system.

This season, Gasol > Bynum. Regardless of whether that is true or not, Bynum got hurt (in case you forgot) and the Lakers were handed a Finals appearance by the Grizzlies.

Icehouse and Desert Scar, you guys were dead wrong. I do appreciate you both going out on a limb, making a definite prediction and explaining why. Props. But like I said earlier, after watching the Spurs barely eke out a 7 game series win over the "wet behind the ears Hornets", it was illogical to think they would beat a deeper, more experienced and more talented Lakers team. This series played out like I thought it would.
