Kara Swisher and Walt Mossberg had a long day of grilling executives at their All Things Digital Conference. But they saved Rupert Murdoch -- their Wall Street Journal overlord -- for last. The highlight? Murdoch’s not-quite-but-almost endorsement of Barack Obama for president.

The founder -- and defender -- of Fox News said he expected Obama to win in a landslide, citing widespread unhappiness with the current administration and his disenchantment with Republican contender John McCain. Murdoch added that after a long career in the Senate, McCain had been forced to compromise too much and doesn’t stand for much. Murdoch even nonchalantly owned up to influencing the New York Post to back Obama in the New York primary.

During the Q&A, I pressed Murdoch -- a new U.S. citizen -- on whether he would actually vote for Obama in November. He said he was leaning toward it, but would know in the next six months. When I asked if I could call him, he said yes, then joked I could probably just figure it out from reading the Post.

I also asked Murdoch about reports that he said he would buy the New York Times if he had the opportunity, just to shut it down. He said he was kidding, but likely Times staffers in the audience shuddered.

I caught up with Kara of the WSJ and All Things D once they got offstage to discuss her newfound admiration for the outspoken mogul -- not to mention Alaskan elk.

Won't matter. Murdoch is the real power behind the throne, if he says Obama, then you might as well not even bother to vote, it will be Obama. It's as certain as the Rapture.

Obama is shaping up to be not just an American president, but a globalist candidate who's being tasked with gathering the whole world under one umbrella government, which he will lead (why do you think he refuses to wear the flag lapel pin?). He's the Chosen One, he is the man the world has been waiting for. He had SS protection before any candidate in history, he was already chosen before he even realized he was running. It's his destiny, nay, his burden. He must carry the cross for humanity, or we're all doomed. Resistance is futile!

Well, three-and-a-half years after Obama takes office will be sometime in 2012. Coincidence? Or maybe John the Revelator talked to the Mayans, too.

    original link.

It is getting wierd. What is Murdoch up, too? Maybe he has just decided that Obama is more beatable? Remember his friendly meeting with Hillary at the Pittsburgh paper? Is he just going with the winner (Obama) because it is good for business. Has even he soured on the Iraq War and Bush's Mideast policy? Is he just going to let his loyal Fox News viewers hang? Does he just have some personal grudge with McCain?

JOrge, rather than a debate how about a "loser leaves town" stipulation based on the election - I'm sure there are many of your nemeses who would take that bet with you.

I am with you, what is the dude up to? This has got to be some kind of reverse psychology to try and rally his base. Nothing else has worked. I will believe he feels this way once Fox News stops reporting in the manner that they do. A good first step would be firing Bill O'Rielly and Sean H.

I don't think you can equate Murdoch's views and Fox News' views. Fox News, especially O'Reilly and Hannity, sells. They get great ratings. I hate it, and many do, but they've got a market cornered and exploit it. Murdoch is certainly politically motivated, but his company is in it for the money.

Sam -- compliance/enforcement would be a big problem with that bet. Trying to keep the hoardes of liberals, flag-stompers, and VW Microbus dwellers who lost the bet (after McCain wins) away from the BBS would be like trying to keep ZOL from begging Clutch to reinstate his account. Just too burdensome for the mods.

I disagree with Murdoch. The presidential election will be close. Congress on the other hand could be ugly. If Obama somehow wins in a landslide, the Congressional Dem blowout could be off the charts.

But it won't happen. I feel very comfortable in saying Obama will definitely not win in a landslide. The GOP is just too good at presidential politics, much better than the Dems. They will find enough wedge issues, false issues and dirt on Obama to keep him from flying too high. They haven't even started unloading on him yet. Obama's supporters should not be overconfident.

IMO, the only way it's a landslide is if McCain's candidacy crumbles late in the game.

The Obama is not an AmeroChristian meme disturbs me to no end. Seems like his platform of racial healing (one of many, but the most prominent for the Black candidate) will undoubtedly be countered by ripping open old wounds.

Jorge - I am merely asking for a gentlemen's agreement, from a clearly honourable man such as yourself, to refrain from posting during a specified period following a McCain/Obama victory.

Surely, as a gentleman, you could agree to such terms. I know I could....yes?
