It's been all quiet on the Western Conference so far. Any update? Any speculations? Maybe it's Glen Rice... .
Y'know, I was a Lakers fan until they traded for Rice ... Anyway, the last update from the guy on the GS board was 24 hours ago. He said there are two deals in the pipeline: Trade #1, which he says "looks very real," is Marc Jackson to Orlando for Pat Garrity, a first-round pick, and salary cap filler. More comments: "Could happen as soon as tomorrow. Sounds like the W's will be surprised if this doesn't go down. They are working this one hard. Wonder if by Jackson expanding his list, Orlando decided they'd better get it done." If you ask me, that's a steal for the Warriors (and perhaps unlikely for that reason ), since Garrity has been shooting the lights out the past couple of weeks. From the Orlando perspective, I guess they might feel like they need more low-post scoring and rebounding than Garrity can give them. Trade #2, which he considers less likely, is Stephon Marbury from Phoenix for Danny Fortson, Larry Hughes, Marc Jackson (or Foyle or even Dampier, if MJax is sent to Orlando) plus a conditional first-round pick. His comments: "We remain one of two teams in the mix here -- us and the Knicks want him. The details of our exact players involved sound sketchy (with Jax coming out of the mix), so I wouldn't be surprised if this deal had to morph to happen (e.g., include Murphy or a second #1). Sound like this one is much less likely than #1, but is still being very actively discussed. Skiles leaving helped, as he was Marbury's #1 fan. While this is strictly my opinion, I bet Colangelo gets cold feet not getting a tier-one player or prospect in return -- so the odds of this one getting left on the cutting room floor are high. " This deal was mentioned on ESPN Insider today, so either it's a real topic of discussion or they're stealing their scoops from message boards. Of course, all this is conditional on St. Jean being unable to revive the Jamison-for-Walt-Williams blockbuster of a year and a half ago.
