If you could add one of these players to the Rockets next year (nevermind how it would happen or what we'd have to pay them), who would you rather take? Please consider winning a championship as the chief criteria, not your personal like/dislike for the player. A poll has been added. Personally, I like Manu more even though Carmelo is entering his physical prime and should (in theory) be improving.
Manu all the way. He creates, drives, finishes, shoots from outside, passes, plays defense, and comes to play in big games. I hate him for his flopping but he brings everything to the table that a playoff team needs. He is a winner. Manu will make sacrifices for his team. Carmelo is out there to get his points and is a me-first player. I will pass on the second coming of Glen Robinson. Honestly, if winning a championship is priority then this shouldn't even be close.
Put Melo up there with Marbury as MOST OVERATED PLAYERS IN THE NBA! you can't win with either of them
This thread is purely for comparing how Manu and Carmelo could directly contribute to winning for a given team.
In manu's code, there is no surrender. =) I think the band survivor wrote a song about him in the 80's foreshadowing his arrival to the nba. It's a shame that he plays for one our enemies.
Man, I didn't mean to put up such a lop-side poll. I thought there would be more Melo-supporters here.
Manu is arguably the best player on the Spurs. 'Melo' can't even come close to getting past the first round with a team that is pretty deep in talent.
This rockets team already have 2 "first round virgin" superstars, we dont need another one, i.e. Melo! Ginobili is a winner and he will make a perfect third star.scorer! Manu all the way!
You would get slightly "better" results if you had done this poll during regular season when Melo is one of the top scorers in the league while his team is scoring 125 points a night. Right now is playoff time. Its winning time. A time when most folks are reminded of Manu's value and Melo's fishing expeditions and the poll is showing it....
Manu would bring exactly what we lack emotionally and gameplay wise. Melo does 1 thing and takes either Battier or McGrady out of the game while doing it. Manu could play PG in our offense.
imagine what adding Manu would do for Scola aswell. they'd both want to finish their careers here. but who are we really kidding here.
24 years old or 30 years old? 1 championship or 3+ championship? Manu is the better player at this stage, but Melo is still young and developing his overall game. I'd go with Melo.
Melo is 23 - Manu is 31. Hmmmm. Melo without question. I'm sorry but not only is he a bona fide first option (possibly the best pure scorer in the league), he's also the more efficient scorer. There's no doubt in my mind that he will get better as the years pass (and will be worth MUCH more than Manu) while Manu declines (he's currently having the worst postseason of his career). Regardless of the negative stigma that surrounds him - he has improved his game year by year (this season he expanded his offensive repertoire w/ the inclusion of 3 point range). He's a bigger guy - who could fill the 3/4 for us unlike Manu... and is a great rebounder (he averaged ~8 RPG playing alongside of Camby and Martin). I don't see the logic behind choosing Manu. Ginobili is among the most overrated players in the league. Ginobili isn't a better scorer than Anythony, he isn't a better rebounder, he is a better playmaker (I use the term playmaker loosely here - very loosely), and a better defender (by DRTG - which amounts to little considering Bowen and Udoka always cover the others teams best offensive players and Duncan/Oberto are his backside help). He's a 6th man who provides energy in limited minutes off of the bench. Anthony is a star who still hasn't even played the best ball of his career.
I don't get it. Is this supposed to be a joke? Who the hell would take Melo's punk ass over Manu? I have a strong suspicion losing is going to follow Melo around in this league.
