just because he didn't break a bone, doesn't mean it didn't hurt and didn't have enough force to knock him down. he didn't fall down for "drama."

we aren't making it a hollywood story, you just think it's nothing to get hit by a ball in the cheek at about 100 mph. nobody said he broke his skull or his nose, you are implying things that haven't been said.

try pitching BP to good hitters and taking a shot like Jose took and your tone would change instantly.

Valverde, Astros survive scare in 4-3 win over Phillies
Pence's two homers jump start offense

    Chronicle News Services

The second sellout crowd of the season at Minute Maid Park went nuts when Hunter Pence hit his second home run of the game and again when Brandon Backe left the mound after his best performance of the season.

Those moments turned out not to be anywhere near as dramatic as when Astros closer Jose Valverde was knocked to the ground in the ninth inning after being hit in the head by a line drive by Pedro Feliz.

Valverde lay motionless for nearly a minute before popping to his feet, throwing a pair of warm-up pitches and eventually closing the door on the Astros’ 4-3 win over the Philadelphia Phillies on Friday night.

Why don't you take a ball to the head like that and then come back and tell me what a minor thing it is.

What is wrong with you? Don't say things like that hit to the skull was nothing, all you have to do is give the man the respect he deserves because that is everyone else is doing.

Just because he was able to stay in the game and there was no immediate sign of injury, doesn't mean everything is fine.

I've taken a line drive to the gut, from the pitcher's mound, in a slow-pitch softball game and I had a nice little bruise for a good week. This guy takes a line drive to the jaw from a 90+ mph pitch in a major league game and you think he's completely fine just because he got up and stayed in the game? Now whether or not there are any lasting effects to that hit, Valverde got back up on that mound, pushed aside any nerves or anxieties he may have been feeling after a brief flash with serious injury and finished the inning. Not only that, but he seemed to come back with a renewed, focused anger to shut the door. That takes some guts.

First 2 pitches after getting crushed in the face...96...97 MP(f'n)H

    Like dskillz told me...

If that was TMac, they'd have had to open the roof, called in Life Flight, and prepare to have him out for the next 2 seasons.

    THANK YOU for that video.

I didn't think it was THAT bad reading the recap last night, but DAMN that ball flew at him. What a great display of heart and guts.

oh it's not a big deal. the ball only ricocheted off his dome, went 40 feet in the air, and rolled all the way into left field.
