Cook was the most talented, Archuletta the best singer. Cook is the only one I would buy a ticket to go see, he is ready. DD
I recorded it and was just watching it and it went "And the winner is..." STOPPED!!!!! It didn't record the end!!!
I learned early to set my DVR to record the show but add 2 to 4 minutes to American Idol to get it all. DD
My DVR did the same damn thing! My wife and I were freaking out! I was able to turn on FOX like halfway through Cook's craptacular feel-good winning song. I totally missed the reaction shot. For the record, my faith in humanity has been restored, as the better contestant definitely won. As an aside, someone needs to put Daddy Archuleta on suicide watch tonight, as his meal ticket just got knocked down a peg. Also, someone may want to call child protective services in advance for poor David. You can never be too careful.
Why end the show at 9:02? I'm glad Cooke won, but I doubt either becomes a superstar like Underwood. And yes, she was looking good last night.
Yeah, I mean DVR.....but I do have a couple of combo VCR/DVD players clanking around in the house. DD
Because the bit of that over-run will go to the next show, and give a boost to that show's ratings. It's a stupid practice that doesn't really accomplish anything except piss off people who tivo these shows.
I barely caught the winner. As soon as Seafoam announced David Cook as the winner it cut off. I was going to be pissed if I watched all of the show just to be cliffhanged on to the net. Good show btw. I liked the Gladys Knight skit. Love the song and she had new Pips in the background. Very nicely done!
I learned a long time ago to set my DVR to record five minutes past the end of the show. I used to have the ending cut off all the time, now all I miss is usually the second half of the loser's song...

i don't think it mattered who won. Regardless, the outcome was going to be the same. Both are under contract w/Clive Davis I'm pretty sure. Both will have an album out next year, and the type of album won't be different for one vs. the other. I don't think one will sell any more or less than he would have if Archuletta had won. So really, it's all the same except Cook now has to have that crappy final song "Time of My Life" on his album.
I agree with you that the 2 finalists probably didn't care about the result, but I can assure that American Idol did. David Cook will probably outsell Archuleta 5:1 in album sales, regardless of what happened last night, so having him as the overall winner makes AI look a lot better, credibility-wise. From an AI perspective, a runner-up shouldn't be allowed to destroy the winner in record sales, as it's embarrassing. Simon Cowell/Nigel Lithgoe/Clive Davis are still probably smarting from the whole Daughtry vs. Taylor Hicks affair from 2 seasons ago, and they would really rather not have a repeat of the situation.
it depends on how well written his songs are, and what type of songs he's permitted to play. if last night was any indication of what will be on his album, his sales will be weak. it wasn't his style at all.
I don't think The Powers That Be are stupid enough to force Cook into releasing an album chock full of gooey, inspirational ballads. Besides, just about every Idol winner releases the (ill-fitting) winning song as a single and then goes on to record an album closer to their style of music. For example, Kelly Clarkson's debut album didn't sound like "A Moment Like This", Carrie Underwood's debut didn't sound like "Inside Your Heaven", and Jordin Sparks' album didn't sound like "This Is My Now." ... But yeah, even if TPTB made Cook release 12 "The Time of My Life"-like songs on an album, I STILL believe Cook would outsell Archuleta 5:1.
