Foot Locker or Finish Line...they are always looking for full time people to train for management positions.

You get to be around all the latest shoes and apparel, you sometimes get to meet pro athletes doing promotional gigs, and you get a good discount on shoes and such.

I am not sure what they pay these days, but it can be a fun environment.

You should suck it out at walgreens for at least half a year, question marks will come up if they see you only worked there for 2 months before callign it quits.

Uh, is it just me, or does $15.35 sound like a great paying retail job for an assistant manager position?

That's what I was thinking. I never made more than $12/hr until I graduated from college.

A boyfriend in college made $14 an hour as the AM at Auto Zone. $15.35 is pretty decent. And as always, there are places that pay better. Though really, you should consider the amount of stuff you put up with now, versus where you'd be going.

I had a buddy that interned at Walgreens. He said that there was big room for improvement in the management, but his managers at least were willing to listen to his ideas, and even implement some of them.

He also said that if you decided on retail for a career, Walgreens advancement happens pretty fast since they are growing pretty quickly and need as much good management as they can get.

He ultimately opted not to pursue retail as a career, but said they certainly made it difficult to choose. His biggest obstacle was the hired employees. Its hard to work with minimum wage teenagers that don't really want to work at all apparently.

I'm sorry to hear that your experience has been so different. Over $15 an hour is pretty decent, however.

I'm not sure how old you are but you have to factor in inflation as well.

Are you doing this full time or part-time? For part-time this is decent pay. I never worked a retail job before so I don't know how much they pay for salary employees. But for 2 years experiences, you really shouldn't expect much.

I am 23 years old and Ive been with Walgreens for 5 years. There is alot of opportunity but it sucks if you have kids, which is what I want in the next year.

What about Enterprise Rent A Car? Do you have a degree? You can be a manager in about a year and they make a pretty nice base + commision. You get a company car too.

I worked there after college and loved it. I'd probably still be there if not for the fact that I hated retail. If it's your thing, I'd look into it.

My brother used to work at Fry's. He said janitorial duties are part of everyone's job description, as well as getting the carts in the ridiculously large parking lot during the summer's heat.

    hell yeah it does.

where in the hell is this guy gonna go with 2 mos. experience making more than $15.35 an hour??? nowhere, that's where.

edit: ah, 5 years at walgreens... well that's a little different, but $15.35 still aint that bad. and i'd go ahead and put the having kids thing on the backburner for now.

I don't want to sound harsh, but seriously dude, why the hell would you want to have a kid at 23, and when you are only making 15 buck an hour? Even if they raises it to 18, you are only taking home about 32 grand a year after tax. That's going to be really tight with a baby. Do you have a degree? If not, why not go back to school and work part-time? When you graduate, you could get a good salary job, and then you can think about having a family. Don't have a baby just because you can, you have to be responsible.
