Here's my question about Artest, is there a younger, cheaper version of him lying around. Is there a younger, cheaper player that has the same size and bulk, that has the potential to play some defense, can move between the 2,3,4 slots and can provide some offense to boot? Who is that player? (I have someone in mind. Just wondering if anybody else can identify them.)
The only guy I've seen similar to artest was anthony mason. For a guy to be 6'7 250 and be quick enough to guard 3's and strong enough to guard 4's while being able to score againsy both is very, very rare.
Artest=Marbury + more problems I'd say trade Tmac for Bostjan Nachbar before I ever said let's get Artest. Period.
Could he be persuaded with money to play for us? Us paying him money to play basketball might be the only chance we have. If he will let us give him money, we should give him money to play basketball. For us. He'll play against the other team.
Who would win in a fight between Chuck Hayes and Ron Artest? No, Artest being crazy does not give him an advantage. Chuck Hayes would out-work his face with stone hands.
I think they were referring to on-the court stuff. So I guess we don't want Stephen Jackson either? Folks keep calling Artest crazy and saying he could blow up anytime....but ever since he missed the year he has been been playing and bringing it (when healthy). After getting suspended for a full season I don't see him having any major mistake, and he hasn't since then. When is enough enough?
No to Josh Howard. He's a wirey athlete who gets up and down the floor. Artest has that tree trunk base and great foot movement in the half court, intimidator. Funny someone mentions Udoka. I was watching him last night wondering how good he could become if he just improved his shooting just a little bit more. He's a very good defender. But, I think San Antonio has him locked up. I wasn't thinking of him when I asked the question, but I can see a resemblance between him and Artest, especially from an intimidation standpoint also. Udoka has played all over the globe, been in all sorts of scrapes overseas, he's tough as nails. I'd like to see some more guesses before I reveal the player that I am thinking about. Think bigger and stronger than Howard and Udoka. Basically almost same size as Artest. Maybe just a few pounds lighter, maybe, but he looks just as big, submarine type body, just like Artest. 6'7" and roughly 235-240 lbs, athletic. Not a true rotation player for his team in 2007-08. But I think he's still got a lot of potential.
I think you guys are giving up way too much for Artest. BJaxx + 1st rounder is more than enough. Sacramento truly need a backup PG, get an expiring for their expiring and a draft pick in the process. He would be worth much more if he had more years on his contract. But the fact that he may walk out on either team after one season decreases his trade value. I like this guy because he can defend, pass and score. Plus, he does it with fire, which may be good for T-Mac and Yao. Like I've mentioned before though... If you're running with: Yao Scolandry Artest T-Mac Then you need a very reliable 3pt shooter at PG (someone around the 40% mark) to replace Alston. Either that or load the bench with 3pt shooters. Point being, if you put that team in with Alston, teams will clog up the lane and dare us to shoot - that wouldn't be the prettiest site.
If Dallas really wants him, Carlisle wouldn't be helping boost Artest's market value-before being able to get him... It is understandable for D'Antoni to praise Marbury-hoping to convince somebody to take off of their payroll
I don't know if I'm close, but two people I like are Jared Dudley and Josh Smith. Both would be really hard to get.
Honestly, I'll trade anybody not named Yao or T-Mac to get Artest. Let's be real folks, our window to win a championship with these two is not that big. I say 3-4 Years max and I'm being a homer. Artest is the type of player to help us get there. He'll be the "elusive 3rd scorer" we always wanted and can also play some of the best defense in the NBA.
Chuck Hayes? Seriously, no one comes to mind and I'm the third one who says this which means that he either isn't as similar to Artest to be worth discussing in this topic or is flying completely under the radar. And if he wasn't a rotational player, it's pretty safe to say that he wouldn't be a major contributor next year. I don't even have a guess. Artest is unique.
Personally, I would go for Artest if it was possible. The problem is there are too many obstacles in our way: 1. Artest has to decide not to stay in Sacramento and it looks like he plans to stay. 2. If he does decide to leave, he will be asking for big money which we don't have. 3. If the Kings do a sign and trade, there will likely be other teams with more attractive options for the Kings. The fact is that the Rockets will likely do next to nothing during this offseason due to their financial situation. A big move may happen before the trade deadline but don't be surprised if we are trotting out the exact same starting 5 at the beginning of next season.
