I actually think that Rafer Alston has a great impact on this team with his playmaking skills. Plus there's Brooks and Jackson along with possible healthy Marbury. THIS TEAM NEEDS A BACKUP CENTER, ONE MORE SLASHER AND ANOTHER SCORER, I don't see where the heck Starbury(was once) fits.
.....................................Okay, offer him a 1-year deal at the minimum if he gets bought out. If he plays well, we keep him. If he stinks it up and causes problems, cut his a..
hooray, the knicks wanna buy out starbury, what do we do? laugh. that is all. nothing else we should do.
I cannot believe how many threads about players we should get are popping up. Let's face it, we can get no big name player, just good to decent complementary players. Plus why would we want Marbury when we have Francis? Look at it this way, if NY is willing to buy out a max contract player, there MUST be something wrong with him.
NO, that would have been sufficient enough for me as an answer but it seems that you must type at least 5 characters to post.
The only way we can give him Steve Francis money is from the MLE - which means that we'd be using half of that on him, and half on Landry. Then we have the LLE (or the minimum) to offer as enticement to other players to come and join us! So you're suggesting we take a gamble on a mentally unsound PG as our major activity in free agency this summer? And in so doing wipe out any chance we have to add the peices we NEED (as so clearly stated, a 2/3 who can shoot and a backup C) For those of you who still don't get it: Francis = Marbury - ie. a PG who may or may not live up to their previous reputation. Francis is 1 day younger - and if we already have him, why waste our free agency gambling again? Currently the 'worst case' PG scenario is that we have the same options we did this season - save for Brooks having a year under his belt!
We could - but that's not "Francis money" Even if we COULD offer him the vet min, why would we bring in a worse 3pt shooter than Steve Francis as our big gamble?

The Rockets need as many talents as they can....I hate to see good players go as a result of bad image or whatever....OR even players without baggage such as Fisher when Jazz release him...i knew he's going to be a hell of player and yet Rockets did nothing!
Can all of you pro-Marbury-for-cheap people please explain this is basketball terms? Rafer, in b-ball IQ, is honestly Einstein compared to Marbury, and then you want Marbury to run a read and react offense. That's more like what a quarterback has to do in the NFL, versus what most of us are used to from our high school teams (e.g. hold up a finger or two and go into a set play). One reason Francis struggled early in the year was the offense, and Marbury makes Stevie look like, oh, Steven J Gould in b-ball IQ.
There's so little chance of this actually occuring. Marbury would just become a backup PG or at worst, tradebait for teams looking for caproom, since he is a 22 million expiring contract this year. bad thread
