Yeah guys that Peter Vescey who said that. They were talking about how brand does this and that and vescey says he still thinks francis is the best. He pointed out that he leads the team in points, assists, steals and rebounds. ( He really doesnt lead in rebounds) [IMG] . Then he talked about how he is doing a great job for the rockets rebuilding team.

    GO PETER!!!!!

francis DOES lead the team in number of rebounds (not rebounds per game), so vecsey is right...he has 1 more rebound than thomas...

Despite the fact that Peter's is not my no.1 quote machine, but he was right about this one. I'll forget the fact that I'm a Rocket fan and just look at the facts, Stevie STILL looks to me like Rookie of the year. He's 2nd among rookies in scoring (17.0), 5th in rebounds(5.3)(he's a point guard!!), 1st in three-pointers made & attempted (62/203), 1st in assists (6.8), 3rd in steals (1.5), 3rd in minutes per game (35.1), and one of two Rookies to post a triple double. sureluy the numbers have droppeda bit but arent those numbers also good enough for ROY??

    Elton Brand's rankings :

Points : 1st (by almost 2 per game)
    Rebs : 1st (by 2 per game)
    FG % : 4th (.003% from being 2nd)
    Blocks : 1st
    Minutes: 2nd (0.6/game behind 1st)
Double : 1st (with 27 nobody else is close)
    Doubles
Brand is averaging a double-double. He has more double-doubles than Alonzo Mourning.

You mention that Francis is 1st in 3 pointers attempted and made. All that tells me is that he jacks up 3's. He's shooting 30.5% from there. Yuck. That's the barometer you should be using. Kenny Thomas shoots them better than he does as does Lamar Odom.

How 'bout those for ROY #'s? [IMG]
As much as I hate to say this, at the moment Brand is the front-runner.

Also, your comment about triple doubles isn't exactly correct. Odom, Francis, and Andre Miller all have triple doubles among the rookies.

I sure hope Francis can play like he did in the 1st 43 games, and I don't give a rat's ass about ROY. I wouldn't give up Francis for anyone right now.

Below are his stats from the first 43 games and his last 11 games. As you can see the only area he has improved upon is FT shooting. His steals are the same, but everything else is down. The most discouraging is his FG%, TOs, and Assist numbers.

Short of Francis pulling off a great last 20 games, Brand has the award wrapped up.
