i went to subway for lunch to get my 5 dollar footlong sandwich only to be greeted that the promo was over. they have like 5-6 sandwiches still at 5 bucks or under but I was used to getting my veggie max/patty sandwich for 5 bucks when its usually like 6.50. i knew the promo wouldn't last forever but i kept hoping it would it looked like they raised some prices as well for some footlongs there were some that were like 8 bucks. anyone here own/work with subway to know how much of an average profit they were losing with the $5 dollar promo or if they actually made more money overall because of volume. because at least during the promo every subway i went to was pretty packed with customers at most any time of day.
I hope that's not nationwide yet. I was already saddened by the loss of the Sunday two footlongs for $9 deal.
I don't understand why they would discontinue that? For 5 dollars they probably made a whole bunch more money by increasing volume. Those sandwiches probably cost about .60 cents or so for them to make maybe less. Plus once you get people in by offering a sub for 5 bucks they're likely to buy chips, drink and cookies. Where the real money is at. For someone like me who doesn't really like subway to begin with.... I think it's a big mistake because 5 bucks is a nice number but if I'm dropping 6-7 bucks for a sandwich it sure as hell is not going to be from frickin Subway.
exactly i should find out how much they were making because of the increased volume. i mean the fountain drink alone is a huge profit for them, i would imagine the cost of each sandwich would be at most 2-3 dollars since they have to have a lot of fresh ingredients (like the bread and meat) and the costs of producing all of that (labor and misc). but even that estimate is on the higher end imo. i would believe that subway saw an increase in overall profit and revenue because of volume but saw their profit margins drop. i guess it depends what was more important to them. i do like quiznos i may hit them up for their 5 dollar deal. i didnt know they had a 5 dollar promo. thanks for the heads up.
uhh.... Normally a footlong is say $6.50 30% food cost is $1.95 So now lets say that sandwich is down to $5.00. Food cost on that is still $1.95 Marketing is 12% so that is $.60 Labor is typically 18% so that is $.90 Rent is typically 15% so that is $.75 Not including any misc. the sandwich has cost about $4.20
Not to poop on the party, or sandwich, but nobody needs a foot long sandwich. I like 'em too, but we should all eat 6" sandwiches. It's plenty. That Jared guy did not lose weight by eating the foot long variety.
Isn't it possible to put the thing in the fridge, and eat the other half later.... or split it with someone else? I don't get the "Food should cost more, because some people are fat" shtick.
Maybe I don't want to lose the weight. Maybe I want to be fat and happy, dying of a very predictable stroke at the ripe old age of 40.
I am in the same boat. 5 dollars was the right price point for me to go there but I have always hated them. For 7 bucks I will just go to Lenny's.
I eat half during lunch and then the second half the next day for dinner. I can't eat both the same day or else I will kill myself. Does quiznos have any super healthy subs like subway does?
The only subway sandwich I like is the meatball. Everything else taste like I could make that at home. Now quiznos $5 subs are a real treat. Considering how expensive that already are, this is a real deal. Yes its true, they give you more meat than subway. I ordered the Turkey from subway and all I could taste was lettuce.
I just seen the subway commercial on espn that the 5 dollar footlong will be permanent choice in the daily menu you could choose from 8 subs. But I will still go for the Quiznos 5 dollar sub (turkey breast on wheat)
Don't listent to B-Bob - he is attempting to turn you all into a bunch of pantywaisted sissified half-sammy nibblers, while he himself is gorging on foot longs, maybe even 18 inchers. This is all an attempt to limit the competition to become Intergalactic Superheavyweight Mega-Champion of all Champions. I'm going to file a report with the Quadrant Council to expose this feeble plot.
