I just heard this on 610.

    Absolutely ridiculous, but not surprising.

How is it possible to come in 3rd for DPOY, but not make the 1st team?

Man, what a joke. I know Houston sports tend to be overlooked in general, but jeez...
    ---------------

Something else I wanted to add:

CP3? Seriously, who the hell has this guy ever neutralized? Battier is easily a tier above this cat. To include them in the same list defensively is an insult.

Man, what a bunch of bologna.

Blasphemy. That's all there is to it.

I still can't get over that BS of Garnett as DPOY. Camby is far more deserving of it, even. So disgusting.

This has been disscused many times on this board, and Camby is one of the most overratted defensive players. He gets blocks and rebounds because nobody else on his team feels like doing it. When your team puts up 400 shots a game the other team will have lots of shots and misses also and there will be alot of rebounds.

Take Camby off the first team and put Battier on, what a joke, another Rocket that got an award stolen from him.

Kobe over Battier? Give me a break! Battier was all over Kobe on so many games and Kobe can't even rise up to the ocassion. That sucks!!!!

Right on, players on teams like the Suns, the Nuggets and the Warriors will get inflated number of rebounds because of the ridiculous number of possessions. I always think rebounding percentage (like 10 out of 38 possible rebounds = 26.32%) is a more fair way to grade a player in the rebounding department.

There goes the trade value of Battier. I so wish he could get DPOY and be on the first all defensive team.

I agree that rebounding percentage would be more accurate, but in terms of players having inflated numbers just because their teams play faster...I'm not so sure. You have to remember that most of the teams that play faster also tend to shoot well and play little defense. Shooting %'s for both teams tend to be high, and therefore there are less missed shots to rebound even though more attempts are going up.

That makes no sense whatsoever. 3rd in DPOY voting and on the 2nd team?
And how did CP make it? He's an average defender who gets a lot of steals, that's all. What a joke.

You have to take into consideration positions. Camby and Battier play two different spots and can't be compared. Now Camby IS overrated but you cant replace a center with a SF. There are other PF/C who did a better job than Camby

That being said, my problem is with Bowen. WTF has he done this year. The guy is flying high on pure rep alone at this point. Doesnt have any stats to back up his position. Not to mention Battier did better in DPOY than Bowen and yet Bowen tops him when they play the same position.

1st of all Kobe Bryant is a great defensive player, he is a wayyyyy better help defender than Battier, and has done a phenominal job this season, and 2nd of all Kobe's being in the 1st team has nothing to do with Battier being on the 2nd team because Kobe Bryant is a guard and Battier is a forward.

I can't belive how can you put Kobe instead of Shane...It is dumb

Man Battier had a great defensive year, I'm sure he was one of the best 1on1 defensed in the leauge, he stopped a lot of stars (including KOBE) especially during winning streak

Too much love for Kobe, not enough for Houston
