I've downloaded numerous video files, but only some will play in the theater mode. The others show a black screen, with sound only. They're supposed to be video files, but only the sound plays. Does anyone know why this happens? Can anything be done?

    ZRB,

I'll bet $ to doughnuts that the movies without video were encoded in DiVX.

Try downloading the latest codec (4.0) here. You might also need to install the 3.0 codec (just do a search on Google).

That should take care of your problem. Download anything good?

Unfortunately, no one can be told what the Matrix is. You have to see it for yourself.

Sometimes .avi files won't play in the Morpheus Video player.
Just go to your Shared folder and click on the icons so your default player will play it, it should work then. I've encountered the same problems too!:)

Now I've encountered another problem. I downloaded a 91 minute movie, but "the playa" will only play one minute and 43 seconds of it, before cutting off. My default player and the Morpheus player will not play it at all. It is coded in Divex. Why would 90 minutes of it be cut off?

I didn't install The Playa, so I'm not sure what the problem is there. You mentioned that the Morpheus and your default player won't play it at all. Did you by any chance try to play it in WMP?

You might try to download one of the sample DiVX movies from their site and trying it out on all your players. That way you start with a known-good vid. If it works and that other one doesn't, the bad one might be an incomplete file (or maybe its corrupted).

P2P apps (like Morpheus and Napster) are popular for the quantity of items available and ease of use, but notorious for incomplete files and crummy quality. If you're more interested in quality and don't mind doing a little work, you might want to check out Usenet. Although I've never seen the show, I've seen lots of "Old Red Dwarf" episodes available there...
