Smart player. High percentage FG% but does not take alot of shots, above average 3 point shooter, low turnover average, and has been a durable player. Everything looks good but why is his mins/pg so low? (career avg 25.0). Regardless, this guy is about ready for a break out year. I'd strongly consider this guy.
I think Calderon like Rockets too, you have 2 superstars, you have a great team, great chemistry and he knows he can win something here if the team stays healthly And what is important for him, he could be a sure starter here. I'd like to have him, smart pg, can shoot so well
I dont think hes in that stage of his career to want to win that bad. He may just want to be that man and make money as of now
well maybe, but in this case he should go to worse teams i belive i understand him, he wants to show he can play, he wants to show he can be a great player, maybe even a star. that will lead him to big contract in future
Jose Calderon wants to start. If Houston Rockets can give what he wants Rockets is ideal for Calderon.
I like it, they get a decent young PG in return and they have the picks. I wouldn't mind adding something else to seal the deal like Luther Head or Chuck Hayes, or Mike Harris. Or Bobby Jackson, Rafer(!), Loren Wood, 1st round pick. That adds up to about 12 mil in salary, which is likely to be too much for Calderon's contract, so we'll get someone in return. That way Ford will always start for them. But first of all we need Calderon to express a want to leave Toronto so they'll trade him. Toronto will never let him go
This might get it done as well without giving up Battier. Expiring, young player who contributed, and 2 1st rounders. Seems like a lot at first, but I'd give up a lot for a good, established point guard
I think it's safe to say Jose Calderon is the most desired RFA to rockets fans right now. Morey, GET 'ER DONE
Project A: Alston + Head + Hayes + 1st round pick. Project B: Jackson + Brooks + Hayes + 1st round pick. Project C: Battier + Head.
Sorry I didn't see this. If this is true, Calderon is as good as gone. And I think the Rockets can put up the best offer depending on what they'd give up. Look at the available small forwards: Josh Howard - Mavs Shane Battier - Rockets Andres Nocioni - Bulls The Mavs just hired Carlisle as their coach. He's defensive minded and very respectful to vets. That means Jason Kidd is cemented in the starting lineup until his contract runs out. The Bulls are interesting. They can offer a starting job, but they're not very close to true contenders. But if Calderon is traded to the Bulls, then Hinrich could be had at a discount. I would bite if I were the Rockets. The Rockets have everything Calderon wants: a starting job, title contention, and the opportunity to contribute. Calderon will either be left wide open, or his defender will not be able to cheat over to McGrady or Yao. The game gets easier with him at the point. I think the Rockets have to give up Battier to get Calderon, and at this point, I would do it. But it's ok because of the available talent at small forward in free agency (Pietrus, Maggette, Artest?) I think the deal would have to be: Battier, Brooks, and a 1st round pick It may be a lot, but I'd give up a lot to get stability and a threat at the point guard position. I'd replace Brooks' name with Luther Head, but I think he only brings the value down now.
here is an online newspaper article hot off the press: Calderon will leave instead of Ford it seems likely Toronto will want Calderon to leave instead given the dilemma: BATTIER WILL SEAL THE DEAL: what about this deal: Shane Battier Chuck Hayes for Jose Calderon opinions?
hey who is worth more? battier or calderon? I'm talking about in general not about team needs and also who is worth more to the rockets? who is worth more to the raptors?
You can go to the Raps forum, and I say we have a GOOD shot depending on what we offer. They are looking for a good 4 and 2. And for some reason a lot of the NBA thinks Luther is still a good player, probably because they haven't seen him in the playoffs better for us i guess
I don't understand why everyone on this forum is so willing to trade away Battier. In my opinion, Shane Battier is the 3rd most important player on the Rockets team behind Yao and TMac. Hypothetically this thing goes through and we get Calderon and give up Battier. What are we really gaining here? An additional 6 or 8 points per game and maybe 4 assists. But what are we losing? One of the best defenders in the NBA. Without Shane, what's to say that a player like Kobe won't drop 40 on us? Who is going to pose a defensive threat to the opposing team's superstar when we play? Shane might not be able to get 20 points per night, but what he brings to the table is far more important.
I think these two projects also could work! Hayes is a defense specilist, and the raptors may want him. Project A: Alston + Head + Hayes + 1st round pick. Project B: Jackson + Brooks + Hayes + 1st round pick.
