i am sick of bad cable internet service. i keep on getting disconnected due to signal issues. during the week nights, everything works fine. for the last 2 weekends, during the day, it just would not work.

so i am going to switch to other types of internet service. what are some big names other than the regular cable internet? how does satellite internet work? thanks.

If you're getting a bad connection with Cable, you probably have bad wires between your modem and the wire tap on the telephone pole. Unfortunately, they charge to fix this stuff. It's why I always get brand new lines run when I get new service- it's free.

    Anyway, to answer your question-

-FIOS is fastest, it's fiber to your house.
-DSL is cheapest- it goes over your phone line. It's moderately fast. If you like to download stuff, you should either try FIOS or try to get your cable working correctly.
-Satellite depends on your clear view of the Southern sky. The down speeds are reasonably fast, but the upload is horrible. Forget about bittorrent, since you need a decent up speed.
-Phone cards work decently well; I'm using one right now. But the speed isn't blazing and it depends on your signal. They're also pretty pricey and different providers have different speed. It's too bad that the cell phone companies won't let people 'test drive' the cards for a day.

    Hope all that helps.

Well if the tap is bad then you are not charged but if your cable lines are old or they do have a problem then you will have to pay ( Do it yourself it's easy).

After multiple visits from the cable company they figured out it was the tap which normally doesn't happen. Once they saw that the tap I was using was over 20 years old they said yup thats it.. Internet has been running fine since..

Satellite is SLOW!!!! but great if you live in a remote area that doesn't offer Cable or DSL.

Many people in my neighborhood have Wild Blue or Direcway. From what I hear, Wild Blue is much more stable and faster than Direcway, although both have latency issues.

Look into mobile broadband, specifically Sprint.
