wow so basically you're saying you want the next deron williams......when you have tmac and yao, the best center and a top swingman, you kinda have to live with not having a superstar PG.......just like san antonio cant complain they dont have a crazy athletic PF who can board, or laker fans who want to replace derek fisher with a better PG.......there is nothing wrong with the team this year except they couldnt stay healthy......there's no PG's out there, so keep the starters intact.
This is just early offseason ramblings. -Bobby Jackson gots to go. I love the guy but the age is showing and he didn't show up when we needed him and screwed up way too many times. -Same goes for Luther head. I feel like saying the same for Aaron Brooks as well after that pisspoor game he had in game 6, clunking open 3 after open 3. But he deserves another year. -Landry must be signed back! How much was this guy making this year and look at how he contributed for us? It's like paying a guy a dollar for building your house. He's going to be certainly looking for the $$$ tho he wants to stay on the Rockets. Like Morey said he'll match any offer so that's the first thing we gotta do. -It'll be interesting to see a healthy Francis getting his last chance to make noise in the NBA. It's time to rejuvenate that career. I know the anti-Francis gang is going to spout that BS like they usually do but they need to hold their judgement and wait til a HEALTHY Francis steps out on the floor. He knows he's not the star so don't get your panties in a bunch on the ball hoggin nonsense. His role on the team is penetrating when T-Mac's to scared too (which means he'll be doing it often), and either dishing or finishing strong. Heck he can get his 10-15 points a game at the charity stripe alone. Before I go any further. Alston will lose his Starting job to a hungry Francis next season. -Sadly Deke could be leaving. If he's staying another year, great if not we need another PF anyways. Heck since former Rockets seem to be coming right and left to this team, lets just get Kelvin Cato to backup Yao. It was good back in the day since he can run around more then Deke can and they could do that Yao/Cato frontcourt like they did back in the day to go big. Ahh..memories of the constant Francis alley oops since no one guards Cato. -I don't know about Chuck Hayes but he's on thin ice. Develop at least somewhat of an offense or you're gone. It's time for Novak to be utilized off the bench more regularly. He can't play defense, just make up for it with your threes. It's not like he's starting so it doesnt matter. Lineup: C- Yao PF- Scola SF-Battier SG-McGrady PG-Francis Bench- Alston (Backing up Francis at least 15-20 mins) Landry (Split time with Scola, more time off the bench, may take Scolas spot with good play) Novak (Jack up threes, sit back down.) Cato (Back up Yao,take Dekes role pretty much except the blocks would be less but the dunks would be more frequent) Brooks (Get another chance in the same role as this year, take Heads minutes) Harris(Develop a better jumpshot and more consistent offense and could see better minutes) ??? on the others but not expecting anything too big. We don't really need to go wild on the free agent market and the trades would be minor. Our injuries messed us up and we were still good. With A Healthy Yao and a healthy hungry Steve Francis we would still be in the playoffs. Just a tweak here and there and crossing our fingers on no major injuries next season, we'll be alright.
I don't think the Jazz or anybody else knew what they had in Boozer until he actually got out on the floor and started kicking ass. The Rockets probably aren't going to be able to trade for a guy like Calderon. You can always pray though that Brooks or Francis are able to step up. Even if they don't develop into full blown stars like Williams they still bring skills that Alston lacks: the ability to penetrate. There's no real way of knowing how good Brooks is going to be unless he's given playing time and the opportunity to develop into the starting PG. And who knows? Maybe the Rox can find a European/foreign player to fill the PG position, kind of like the situation with Scola.
Rudy Rodriguez. I think its almost certain portlands gonna bring him over next season. Hes like sweeping all the awards after his team won the spanish championship. Maybe we can get like a multi-player going to get the rights to him? kind of like battier brooks and head for jack, outlaw, and rudy rodriguez, or something along those lines
It's not that hard to be Morey this offseason. Spend the partial mle after Landry's signing on a vet center, someone like Maglore or Ratliff. Invite Deke back with vet's min. Make a run at Mike.Miller with bjax's expiring and luther and maybe a 2nd rd pick. Then you let Francis fight for a rotation spot in PG with Brooks. If stevie wins that battle, great, if not, ship him for a vet pg like atkins or a.paker at the trade deadline. If we do get Miller, we should experiment Miller Yao Battier Scola Rafer line up. If it works, tmac can be the sixth man to prolong his career, and yao can play less.
There is NO way the rockets could pull that off!...We dont have enough money, but if we could bring V-Span, it would be outstanding Yao Novak Tmac Head V-span = Instant contenders!
I'm very confused on why so many people actually believe that trading Tracy will make this team better. If we trade Tracy (As someone mentioned earlier), it will set this team back a couple of years, and how many years does Yao actually have left? I unlike many many others actually like our team right now. Sure, I would love to add an athletic big man to come in for Yao/Scola. I would also love to add another shooter/Backup PG. I don't understand why so many people are saying Rafer is not the one to run the offense. Did anyone else watch the series and realize that we played much much better with Rafer in the lineup? We need to keep T-Mac and Yao together. I like the team we are building around them, with the addition of an athletic bigman, and a backup point guard. Just my opinion though.
Hey guys, now that everyone's finally on board the "Luther Head sucks" riverboat, is there even enough momentum to discuss JJ Redick again? LOL. Poll: Redick or Head? Redick - 1 Head - 0
Don't worry. As a 15-minute backup, he would get no chance to secrete his Duke stench onto the court. The JJ v Head debate has never been about JJ, more so about how bad Head really is. JJ wouldn't ever go 1-14 from the floor like Head did in this year's playoffs. Heck you could make him take 14 half court shots and he'd do better. Much better. Head completely disappeared in last year's playoffs too. You could replace him with a 1million dollar mascot at this point and still improve.
LOL, I like Kelvin Cato too. Is he still playing? I still remember the Yao/Cato frontcourt in 2003 that shutted down everything in paint and made us the #1 defense in the league. I don't think anyone will disagree that Cato had been Yao's best frontcourt partner since Yao started his NBA career.
Please if I hear anyone else talk about getting Arenas for the MLE I will slap myself in the face!!! There is no way in a million billion years that that is ever going to happen!! Gilbert is going for the big score this year and wants a max deal from a team. We couldnt get Lewis last year for the MLE anyone thinking we have a chance at Arenas or Boozer has some serious problems in the head.
Also I am really dissapointed in all the Alston hating that is still going on. He might not be a big physcial point who can score at will but he runs the offense extremely well and his shot selection has vastly improved. I might disagree with most but I think that the point position is not one of our main concerns this offseason. How many pgs did we aquire in the last year? And we still have Alston starting with no solid backup (brooks is okay but sucks at D).
Start slapping yourself then. He's coming off an injury. An injury that left the playoff version of Arenas a shell of his former self. He shouldn't even have been playing and I understand that he clearly wasn't 100%, I just hope for his sake he can recover. If he opts out he'll be passing on about $13 million for next season. Given what they just saw from Arenas, who is going to step up and pay him more than that per year? He already has ego issues and baggage -- throw in a bummed knee on top of that? I think he and his agent are seriously reaching if they think he can get more than $13 million a year from anybody other than the Wizards.
