Ok we're considering a move to Virginia later this year. I contacted an apartment today and was told they have income guidelines, you have to make between $25K and $32k (combined incomes.) Why would this be? She really didn't go into detail but it sounds kinda silly. Rent was $715 for the cheapest unit and if I'm paying $715 a month for rent, I'd hope to make more then $32k in a year. Why do you think this could be? Ever heard of anything like this? This is the apartment by the way. http://www.rent.com/rentals/virgini...cinity/newport-news/485060/?sp=1&searchrank=9
how many bedrooms is it? Is it HUD subsidized or something? I've definitely never heard of anything like this before.
I heard of that before. I came across a really nice one when I was searching for a place, and it said you couldn't make more than 32k combined if you lived with another person. and you couldn't make more than 24k if it was only you. Pretty stupid.
it HAD to be govt subsidized housing... i ran into this when i was looking for apartments in college in austin back in 1996... the apartments on riverside and pleasant valley - looked great and insanely cheap rent... when they found out how much my parents make they laughed and told me to leave...
The call them Section 8 housing here. (I am guessing that's the law that gives them the subsidies) Most of ours are around 500-600 a month for a two bedroom - I only know this because one of the girls that worked here was eligible for it the first two years she worked here.. then she went over the limit and had to move.
Exactly. The stereotype of there being alot of drugs, crime, kids, and thugs in those complexes was true at the complex I lived at. Once the Section 8 people loved in, the nice, quiet complex turned into 'Menace to Society' in about 2 months.
Damn it! That place was the best out of about 40 apartments Ive researched. Had the cheapest price per sq. foot ratio. And the only one that doesn't require a MONTHLY PET RENT. Any apts here in Texas have that? Ive never heard of such thing. Its normal in VA I guess.
you know i heard there were some apts in houston where if you met a maximum income you would actually pay less. i mean how does that make sense to anyone? and these are nice gated apartment. a co-worker told me that she qualafied for like 5 or 6 hundred a month.
There is property like this in College Station that is pretty nice. Isn't Jefferson Davis Hospital (haunted hospital) now one of these?
Some of my friends moved to a place like that recently (in the VA area). And no, it wasn't filled with thugs. In some cases, just a couple of units in a condo or apt complex will be subsidized and will only be available to low-income people. So you have your normal-income crowd along with a couple of low-income groups that get picked out of a hat of many..
Yeah, we have some apartment complexes like that in my hometown. The complex is split into sides and one side is income based and the other side is not.
The apartment that I've been living in the past three years has freaking pet rent in addition to the pet deposit... Edit: It's not much, though. Like five bucks a month.
