Why don't Hockey fans enjoy basketball? Some people just don't enjoy the sport. period. Nothing else to dig into. Real simple. I've always thought Hockey was a mix of two sports: Soccer and Football. Just never got into it. I can watch the highlights and be intrigued, but I can not watch an entire game and have no interest in attending a live game. Perhaps I'll go to say that I have been to one, but nothing past that.
something about seeing two guys, with the blessings of the refs, go at it...endlessly pounding each other. that does nothing for me. If they took out the "allowed" fighting I'd join my brother and give it a look.
Minor League Hockey Live >>>>>>>> NHL on television If football is the sport that gains the most on TV, hockey is the sport that loses the most.
I love hockey. I have been a fan since I was about 7 and the games used to come on the USA Network. I worked for our local ECHL team for the 4 years they were in existence. I was going to bed last night and just happened to switch to see how the game was going. Needless to say I ended up watching the whole thing. So many ups and downs in OT. That was a great game and I can only imagine how much better it was in person. Another great thing about hockey is that generally the officials in playoffs let the teams decide the outcome. I know last night's game ended with a power play goal, but there were only 2 penalties called after the 2nd period. And generally they will be pretty equal (the announcers actually talked about that in the game last night). One of my duties with the Beaumont team was to work with the officials. I have had an official ask for the game sheets during intermission for the sole purpose of finding out how even the calls have been. barring something major they like to keep things as even as possible.
I love ALL Sports. I'm a hockey fan and got into it when I lived in St. Louis. I fell asleep in the 2nd OT of last nights Stars game. So tired from work.
I'd watch it if there was a NHL team in Houston. But I'm with the rest of the posters that grew up here. Cold weather sports just aren't on my radar, and that's including skiing, snowboarding, dog sledding, igloo building, etc.
I guess this is as good an explanation as any. Also, there wasn't much exposure growing up in Houston. The Aeros? Whatever... Seems like a waste of water.
I'm the opposite. The few games I've been to in person I found to be terribly boring. The game stops way too many times. Why do they stop when the goalie makes a save? I don't get that. At least at home, you can get up and go do something during the thousands of commercials. (Keep in mind that I'm a soccer player and I feel the same way about most every sport that doesn't have a running clock and no commercials). I also don't understand icing and the offsides rule. It doesn't seem logical to me. I don't mind the change of possession...though I'd figure as professionals in the top league in the world, it would be better than it is. Then again, I've never played the game and don't even know how to roller skate, let alone ice skate. I tried to like it. I watched when the Stars won the cup. I watched the Avs vs. Red Wings games in the 90's with some Red Wings fans. I went to an Aeros playoff game and an Austin Ice Bats game. What I learned is that I do not like hockey enough to like minor league hockey.
none of my friends like it so not much of a chance i'll get into it how come I can understand football rules but hockey rules are confusing

I'm from Canada and I've never gotten into hockey. Just being a basketball fan first, I hate the coverage that hockey gets here. Full day coverage on all major sports stations on trade deadline week, nightly games, and 40 minutes of every hour-long highlight news show is dedicated to hockey. That said, almost everyone else here is crazy about it. I have several friends with NHL potential and if they ever make it I think I would follow it just for them.
