I don't mean to step on anyones feet, but I don't beleive I've heard of one trade mentioned on this forum that any GM would give two seconds of thought. Of course all of our trades here at clutch favor the rockets, but that's obvious to the recipient. If I could here about one trade mentioned on this forum that happened or is even reasonable please let me know. All trades I've read about recently need not apply. We have to "give" something to get something.
why make any trade at all ? I can't see any trade that would make any better. it seem like this team is pretty much set at 1-4 positions and no one would take Cato anyway. I would try and grab a good backup C ,maybe try to land Scott Williams from Denver. any big trade we might pull now will hurt the chemistry in the team ,we might stinks this year ,but it seem that at least the players are working pretty well with each other. imagine a player like Mobley in any other team in the top West (Van Exel come to mind ,a gunner for crappy team) unless we can ger Duncan or Shaq....I don't think Houston should make any move. DanL
I've seem some trades here that other teams would do. I've seen some trades here that I wouldn't do if I were Carroll Dawson. Granted, the majority are pretty bad for the other team. And the ones I'd list as "unlikely, but not impossible" don't bother me too much, since odd trades do happen as a result of pressing circumstances. Of course, I don't like the trade threads in general... because they seem pretty irrelevant to our current team . They become more interesting when Oeilpere posts in them, though .

huh?? this team is set 1-4??? seriously??? it's pretty clear Griffin is not a 3...so who is??? Glen Rice??? ummmm..no. Having Rice does not mean we're "set." In fact, it probably means we'll be paying an injured player who's past his prime. I think the problem with this team is its personnel. It is, in my opinion, not talented enough to win titles. Chemistry??? You don't want to disturb the chemistry of a team that is well below .500 and hasn't made the playoffs in 3 years??? Seems to me there will have to be a trade involving either Mo Taylor or Kenny Thomas...there's too many 4's on this team right now, assuming that Griffin is ultimately a 4. They need a big 3 who can play defense and can be a legitimate offensive threat (maybe a second or third option)...especially considering we have such an undersized backcourt that clearly isn't that concerned with playing defense.
my proposal Rockets trade HOTtoddie(1.3 dumb posts/day, 0.2bad threads/day) Sacramento trades Any poster on their fan forum(1.9 semi-intelligent posts/day) Trade Denied HOTtoddie is just like Kelvin Cato....we have to keep him my apologies to the following: HOTtoddie and people who appreciate his posts Rockets are going to be Champs!!!!(that is one thing we can agree on)
Personnel having missed significant parts of this season through injury; Francis Mo Taylor Glen Rice Number of games won with Steve Francis out with injury 2 Number of games Francis has missed 21 Record with Francis in the lineup 15-14 Hey wait, that puts us above .500 when Francis plays.... What's Mo's impact? Tough to say from this season, but we were 45-37 last season when he played, that's above .500 (and a playoff seed this season) Don't mention the fact that we have an extremely talented rookie who's come a long way over the course of the season (thus far) and should be at least a solid contributor next year. Seems that it's not as doom and gloom as you'd like to spell out Vernon. I agree that we need to offload a 4 - but I'm not convinced that we need a big scoring 3 - a 4th option type would do fine (or Walt/Rice before their collective knees gave in!)
I think Their knees and ankles already gave in. Walt/Rice will suffice? And take us deep into the playoffs next year? I don't know. Well who do we draft, then? If we're set at 1-4 and can't get rid of Cato then who do we pick with a top 7 in the lottery. Plus Toronto's pick and unloading a four. If all of that doesn't get us a decent starting 3 then we are in trouble. Or should we trade Cato and unload a 4 + the two picks and land a stud Center? Then we're stuck with Walt/Rice/Morris at the 3. I say keep Cato and get the best starting small forward we can for next year. The more I think about it, the Rockets are sitting pretty!!!
I understand your points...I really do. I just don't feel this team is as talented as you do, even when they are healthy. I am excited about Griffin, though!! Most of all, I don't think the personnel on this team has even the smallest bit of commitment to defense. Defense is all about effort, and I don't see it. That concerns me. I'd like to work the word scrappy into the conversation...but I can't! As for injuries...Mo Taylor = Kenny Taylor...I don't think we lost that much. Glen Rice is worthless, healthy or not. As for the 3...I guess I'm not as concerned with him being a scorer as I am with him being big....again, because our 1 and 2 our small. Again...DEFENSE....DEFENSE....DEFENSE...
What? You're telling me that Denver would take Walt Williams, KT, and a first round pick for McDyess? I guarantee there's a possibility of that happening if Clyde and company are smoking a crackpipe. With drugs anything is possible.
We really don't have to change our team too much to acquire a BIG 3. Whether it be picks #3-7 (Gooden, Dunleavy?, or Prince?)in the lottery or Rashard through free agency we wouldn't give up a thing. Cato Griffin/Taylor/ Thomas ? / Morris/ Rice/ Williams Mobley/Torres Francis/Moochie Now, if we use Toronto's #18-23 + Kenny or Mo/ Walt to trade for some backup muscle at the 5 to push/rest Cato we could be talking about a pretty good team. Who could we get for Kenny or Mo/ Walt + #19? Magloire? Or someone better? I'd trade Kenny straight up for Magloire. + #19/Walt? Maybe.
A nice lineup would be: Kelvin Cato Eddie Griffin Ron Artest Cuttino Mobley Steve Francis But so would: Shaq Garnett Vince Kobe Iverson
