Just understand that if we keep McGrady that we have about a 4 year window max to get a championship with him as our main player. If you anyone is truley confident we can acquire those peices before TMac falls apart or he retires then I would like to hear it but please make it at least believable. We are not going to get Monta Ellis, Gilbert Arenas, Baron Davis or anyone else of that caliber with what we have to offer or the mid leval exception. We had better hope that: Yao and TMac both stay healthy which of course they have not been able to do. Shane Battier decides he wants to join the offense on a more consistent basis. Rafer Alston continues to improve in Adelmans offense at age 32, gets healthy and does not revert to his inconsistent self that he has always been through out his career. That we find someone that will consistently and efficiently attack the basket (like the Spurs, Lakers, Hornets and Jazz have) when the 3pt shots are not falling. Learn how to hit a freaking free throw.
Well one of the problems is that both players (Yao and TMac) can not stay healthy. This has been proven year after year, both players have health issues. The TMac / Yao duo has been knocked out of the playoffs in the 1st round every year regardless of the reason. How can you not talk about Yao and TMac and not talk about the injury bug? Last time I checked injuries were a part of the game and both Yao and TMac always seem to miss significant time due to injuries.
Then this thread should have come back in February/March. Did you really think the Rockets were going to win a first round series back then when the news hit of Yao going down?? Did you even think they would make the postseason?? I think what the Rockets did after Yao went down only serves to strengthen the resolve of the front office that this thing CAN work.
I think most people agree that there is a big possibility that the rockets will not be good enough before Mcgrady is old, even though he is a great player, but there's a catch. The teams that have what we would want in return for Tmac are rebuilding and wouldn't want an aging star with injury problems and the teams who would want Tmac don't have what we want to offer. Luol Deng and Ben Gordon sounds nice but the bulls didn't want to give up Deng for Kobe. The miami senario has us getting one first round pick for a guy who averaged 27-8-7 in the playoffs is ridiculous and trading Tmac for just Smith and Childress is equally ridiculous. When trading a great player you must get young star, some other pieces and high picks. Anything less is a bad trade for both the future and the present because you will end up overpaying one of the guys you get in the trade. It always happens.
When Healthy . . that is the operative Phrase The Rockets only have THREE OPTIONS 1. WIN NOW - break the bank to sign a free agent and hope to win in 2 years 2. SELL HIGH - Sell on Tmac now. . . . 3. WAIT - Until T-mac = Glenn Rice when he was with the rockets Crash - I agree but only for the RIGHT deal. It is not a drastic necessity but The Rockets should at least be OPEN to the discussion. Looking at Injuries to TMAC is more than looking at loss of games [him being out] but how many games he 'plays hurt' QUESTION: How many games did TMAC play this year where he was not hurt in some capacity that hampered his game? Rocket River
yeah who is that guy?????????? that is really smart of a guy starting a thread trading t-mac when there are already a million trade t-mac trades! hey crash 5179 do you even know how to play basketball or even know anything about the game? p.s. someone please lock up this thread!
Exactly they should stop being viewed like a duo this is a team now not a duo this isnt Kobe+Shaq views out of Hollywood.
How? We do not have the resources to just add Ben Gordon to compliment TMac. If we did I would be all for it.
I think all of these things can be said for Yao, too, but people seem to just focus on T-Mac's problems. As bad as T-Mac's injuries have been, Yao has not played more than 57 games since 04-05, and while T-Mac's chronic back injuries seem to finally have been controlled, Yao's foot/leg problems are more likely to carry over to future seasons. On top of all that, there is not much of an age difference between the 2, and the team appears to respond better to Yao getting injured than T-Mac. Personally I think we should give it 1 more season, but with Yao's stock being higher than T-Mac's (mostly because of marketing and the fact that he's a big man), and all the things I stated before, Yao should be the one that should seriously be considered in trade scenarios.
So if you knew a couple of years ago what you know now about Chris Paul would you have traded TMac for him?
Paul is once in a decade PG....much, much bigger chance of getting a solid role player or a bust than a Paul. If we trade T-Mac to a decent team like Chicago or Atlanta, chances are all we will get is a mid-late 1st round draft pick, with no possibility of getting a CP3.
Thank you! That is exactly my point. Key phrases in your reply...For the right deal and Open for discussion. And to answer your question I would say that TMac was injured in some capacity for most of the year. He looked like he was put together by duct tape by the end of the year.
I agree there isn't a chance, but from a realistic standpoint I feel that we will get a LOT more value by trading Yao instead of T-Mac, and would be losing less if we gave up Yao instead of T-Mac. But, as I said, I don't want to give either up...I am still very confident that the duo can get it done.
I thought they had restricted posters under the age of 12 from posting. Someone please ban this guy. Isn't it time for milk, cookies and your afternoon nap.
