When: 7:30 PM, Saturday, May 3rd Where: Robertson Stadium, Houston, TX Television: HDNet Radio: 790 AM (English), 850 AM (Spanish) This is our first home game in nearly a month and the road has really taken a toll on the Dynamo. I believe Pat Onstad will be back in goal and hopefully he has his mind together after coming back last week against Columbus. The biggest thing for us to do is finish; watching the game against the Crew and seeing the literal pile up on the goal line and not being able to push the ball through was maddening beyond all belief. We have not had a "total package" game yet this season; we either play well offensively at the expense of defense, or it's the other way around. This home game may be just what the Orange need to right the ship. Chivas USA is coming off of an embarrassing 5-2 loss to the Galaxy, so I expect them to be hungry as well. This has the makings of an entertaining match. It's also the ring ceremony evening for winning the 2007 MLS Cup, so there will be lots of extra fanfare. What are your thoughts? Will you be attending? Let's get more than three replies to the thread this time!
They need a win now more than ever. Can't continue to fall further and further out of the picture. I know there's a lot of games left to play, but they have to change their play immediately or the 3-peat can be forgotten.
Working at the Astros game or I would be there. I think we'll get off the schnide in front of the rabid home faithful.
I watched the first 30 min or so but then turned it off. My gf came over and we had to go out to eat.
Very disappointing result. I went to the game last night - and took my mother to her first soccer game; big mistake - thinking that we had to come out with some emotion and fire, as being the only winless team in MLS should ignite the defending champs. I was impressed with the +20,000 crowd though, even though it was the quietest I've ever heard it during a Dynamo game. We didn't have to cheer about, to be fair. One of my biggest complaints thus far in the season is the play of Franco Caraccio. His style does not compliment Brian Ching up front and too often, Caraccio will one-touch the ball right to a defender when it would be wise for him to move a little with it. I'll try to be at the game again next week - Colorado is a good team. Bouna Coundoul is a good keeper and Christian Gomez is fantastic. I won't give up for the Dynamo if they can pull this one out, but if they deliver another performance like last night against Chivas, I think major changes are in order. One more point before I start the new thread in a few days: the people over at Big Soccer are saying that Joseph Ngwenya is close to returning to the Orange. I'd heard this before, but nothing for a few weeks. One member said he discussed this with Oliver Luck in the parking lot after the Chivas game and apparently Ngwenya's contract is running out in Austria and he wants to return to the Dynamo, as he's gotten very little playing time there. I think that his return would be awesome and provide much needed depth at forward.
Bernardo Fallas has an update about Ngwenya in his blog. Hopefully he'll come back. http://blogs.chron.com/soccer/archives/2008/05/dynamo_aim_for.html It seems like teams know that if they bunker against us they'll get a point out of the game, and if they get lucky on a counter or set piece they can come away with all three. They let us control the game because they know they can keep us from scoring.
Saw the game on HDNet...dissappointing result, as we got to get a win soon... Not sure what came of Ching's injury but damn, I thought there was going to be a fight...
ummm i got this email today from UH police.... SYNOPSIS: On May 3, 2008 at approximately 9:42 pm a Dynamo fan support group and the Chivas fan support group became involved in a physical fight outside the stadium after the soccer match. Numerous fans were involved in the fight. Sometime during the fight one of the fans was stabbed in the back. This fan did not know he had been stabbed and was made aware of it by other fans. He was transported to the hospital. Though several fans were arrested for fighting the investigation did not locate the suspect. This incident resulted from the soccer match and was not associted with any UH event. Updates on the investigation of this incident will be posted on the University of Houston Department of Public Safety Web site at http://www.uh.edu/police/security_alert/index.html All faculty, staff and students are encouraged to be alert and to be cautious and aware of their surroundings on and away from campus. As with any emergency situation, if you see suspicious activity, call 9-1-1.
Jesus Christ!! man I didn't thinkk people got that amped up for MLS that a brawl would break out and someone gets stabbed. Soccer holligans. Insanity. I wouldnt even start a fist fight over the rockets unless it was that guy that got kicked out of Game 1 in Utah I hate their fans.
damn, i think im going to the game in two weeks. i need to be packing heat and knives, and other explosives. CALLED MY FIST.
I know there are fan fights in every sport, but the fights that stem from futbol/soccer is just ridiculous. I never thought Americans would get to the level of other countries, we still haven't, but this is a serious start. MLS, Dynamo, City of Houston and every city that has a team should see this as what it is, a warning. This can get much worse and I know the MLS can't handle one of those bad riots that have happened in other countries. Not to make any excuses for American fans or against Mexican league fans but I know that Chivas USA is the cousin team of Chivas de Guadalajara. There is a huge following of Chivas fans all around the U.S. One reason they made the cousin franchise in Los Angeles was because of the fan base there was enormous. I didn't realize how big the fan base was here until I went to some soccer fields off Hardy toll road with a bar, taqueria stand, building a boxing ring; really awesome BTW. Anyway, the Chivas jerseys were everywhere and they were watching them play the Monterrey Rayados on tv. I talked to many of them and they live in Houston, absolutely hate the Dynamo because they cheer for Chivas USA. I asked how that could be since they are two different leagues and Chivas USA play in LA. They didn't care because their still Chivas and related to the team. Most of them were from Mexico and had attended all the Mexico v. USA games in Reliant. Point is, the Chivas fans in this incident were probably Chivas de Guadalajara fans not Chivas USA fans that came to support their team. There should be more security inside and out when Chivas USA plays in any city with a big Mexican population, especially when they play the Galaxy in LA. I think the MLS has done a bad job with Chivas USA. They wanted it to get more Mexican fans, but it seems like they are separating Mexican and American fans. That can't be good.
Your signature is missing the "AEros" I agree, because I hate chivas fans with a passion and I am an CD América fan. Also, these are isolated incidents that could have happened in any other field and in any other city. I agree, MLS has handled "Chivas USA" fanbase very poorly and they didn't need to add "USA" to a freakin' foreigner team name. WTH is next, "America USA" [WTF?]
