Rafer is the heart of this team

I know it sounds ridiculous but he really is a top 10 pg in the league.. we won't get fair value for him

This was Rafer's best year and don't think we're the only ones that noticed that. His stock is more valuable with the team than in a trade. He'll stay and I bet he plays well next year too. OK, he doesn't have the athleticism to match up with Williams or Paul. So what, who does? He's turned into a good and smarter NBA point guard.

We should keep, event if we get a better pg, he could be a good back up.

Most of the people on this forum does NOT want to trade rafer, and prefer to keep him as our starting PG. Then the other question emerges; what happens if rafer plays like crap next year? Would you guys still keep him because he has the heart, but lack of skills? Because lets face it guys, over the past 3 years, it's been up and down for rafer alston.

I have nothing against rafer alston, but sometimes his shots are just too god damn ugly, and it also makes me wonder why he's our starting point guard.

With the way he has played this season...I say we keep him, but ironically with the way he has played his trade value is higher than ever.

He could be a valuable trade asset.

    Miami needs a PG
    Minnesota
    Portland
    Clippers
    Many many teams

I think we have to trade him. At least, he shouldn't be the starting pg anymore.

He is getting old, and easy to be injured now.

    Old...it's not the problem.

The problem is can he play consistant? Can he stay healthly? Can he become more of a playmaker (I love his game in playoffs)?

I don't think he will go, I'd rather trade Luther and Bobby. But if we could get for example Andre Miller I'd be all for it.

Last year Rafer was so frustrating to watch. This year, when he went down with the ankle sprain at the end of the 2nd quarter, I knew the game was over.

Rafer would be an excellent backup if you can find an upgrade out there. If we could snatch Devin Harris or Jose Calderon that would be great (And of course, you would trade him for Chris Paul or Deron Williams at the drop of a hat). His trade value is at an all time high. Otherwise, I'm not sure I would move him without getting something worthwile in return.

We do still need help at PG. Here is to hoping Francis comes back healthy and can do something, if nothing else than being a better backup than BJax.

Trade Rafer? No way! add a piece and make him fight for his position, of coarse. Rafer has won a piece of my heart, cuz he's a fighter. He fights and doesn't back down to anyone, he carries a chip on his shoulder and just plugging another into his spot because the numbers are better, is NOT the answer. Rafer is tough as nails, so trading him is a negative. Adding to him would be the better strategy.

We need a scoring PG to back up Rafer. Rafer can continue to start but still play only about 25 minutes a game. Like the Kenny Smith/ Sam Cassell rotation in 93/94/95. At that time Cassell came off the bench and played most of the fourth quarter.

Keep Rafer, get a SF with muscle and a decent backup Center.

A starting PG is our priority, Rafer can stay as backup. Yes, the problem is who and how, but no chance we can be contenders without another guard shooting and defending for good.

Stop with teardrop layups not even touching the basket.

Keep him unless the Rockets can find a PG that can do everything he can do (run the team, defend, low turnovers) AND can shoot consistently.

Easier said than done, I'm afraid.

would love to trade him, even though he did show up this year compared to last and i've appreciated him more.

but he's virtually untradeable: he now has a serious injury, he's hard headed when he gets to the level we want him at, and he's not consistent.

these are traits of an egotistic average/at par PG..would you want him on your team?

What you have to understand is Rafer DOES NOT MAKE A DIFFERENCE if he ain't banging down shots.

The key is not if Rafer had played. The key is if Rafer had played and knocked down his shots at an efficient clip and was able to penetrate and finish effectively.

Rafer has good D and sets up the offense. Even if hes not making his shots he helps the team in more ways than one... I really dont mind the point guard situation...

    hell to the no.

we saw how important he is under both coaches. and he's improving under adelman as the season went along.

we struggled mightily when he went out in the reg. season. we struggled mightily in games 1/2 without him b/c tmac had to do his job too. we struggled mightily in the 2nd half of game 6 b/c although adelman put him off the ball, the backups don't know how to run an offense and get him the ball at the spots he wants.

rafer is proving me wrong this year. he's a REALLY good PG. he's not an all-star, but he's proving he is a starting PG. hopefully he'll continue to improve his shot b/c his finishing ability around the rim improved drastically this year.

he's our 2nd most indispensable player next to tracy. we still need a capable backup for him (or will brooks make that 2nd year leap?)
