He's too good a caoch to be doing a TV job.

Dallas is not a good fit for Jeff. Their best player is exactly the type of player that Van Gundy can not stand.

JVG will be coaching an NBA team soon. It's just not going to be Dallas.

Good for JVG, he's in a great situation right now. When he does return to head-coaching it should be at an ideal situation where he has almost absolute autonomy, kinda like Riley or Phil Jackson at this point.

Why isn't anybody throwing Carlisle's name into the picture? I suppose with the D'Antoni rumors Cuban wants to go back to the Nellyball, run-and-gun days rather than an Avery-esque coach like Carlisle, but I still find it hard to believe it's been this long and Rick hasn't taken a job yet.

Actually Del Harris emailed a few papers, Cuban, and ESPN saying that he is interested in a head coaching job, but doesn't want to coach the Mavs because he doesn't want to have to change the relationship he has with the players. He said it would be in the best interest for the Mavs to hire someone who has never had a voice on the bench before. He was happy as an assistant coach and the only the only reason he "retired" was because Avery refused to listen to him. He did say if the new coach/Mavs are interested in him as a head assistant he would be glad to join the coaching staff. Both Cuban and the players love him and we all know Cuban would pay the big bucks to have him back. So I guess it depends on the new coach now.

JVG should be waiting to see what happens with the Celtics or Pistons. If Doc or Flip get the boot, those are two teams JVG could shine with.

Doc Rivers just won 66 games and finished 2nd place in Coach of the Year voting. I think it's safe to say his job is secure.

I get your point though about Detroit.

JVG would be perfect in Denver. He could turn that team into the best defensive team in the NBA

Well that makes a lot more sense. Harris seems like a stand up guy kinda like Rudy T.

I'm confident the Mavs will get a good hc, but how much that'll help I'm not sure.

That's because Doc got Ray Allen, Kevin Garnett, and most importantly Tom Tibby for the D this season. It's more about those additions of why they are kicking ass.

It's been said alot of times in NBA circles that Doc Rivers isn't really a great coach, and if he doesn't reach the finals with this team, his job will certainly be questioned. Prolly not fired, but next season would be make or break.

Not surprised that JVG turned down the Mavs job. He would never subject himself to having Mark Cuban as a boss. I think that Celtics job is perfect for him but then he'd be kinda cockblocking Tom Tibby if Doc is ousted, not sure how that would play out.

Denver, yeah right. Too many knuckleheads for JVG to put up with. You guys think that JVG needs to return to coaching, I think he is taking his sweet time and waiting for the perfect situation, even if it means sitting out another season. He lives in Houston with its cheap cost of living and has alot of money saved up from past coaching gigs.

i skimmed the OP's article and i don't think there were any direct quotes. i'm a little wary of these that they could be just PR moves by Dallas... eliminate fan favorites or big names in the press to make whoever is their choice best available.

there was a recent article where jvg claimed the knicks never offered him a coaching job or gave him a call even though it was reported he turned them down.
