http://www.nba.com/news/referee.html The Refs for tonights game are.... (DRUM ROLL) J. DeRosa B. Spooner D. Stafford anybody know if these are good refs.. any background info for them with rocket games they refed in the playoffs????? this info i posted is important in my opinion... NO TONY BROTHERS YES!
from cuban's blog (yuck) http://www.blogmaverick.com/2004/03/20/referee-tendencies/ sounds like these guys will let utah play physical with the exception of stafford. we've got 2 technical-hot-head refs, so our guys better lay off on the complaining.
They have Javie and Mauer in the Cavs-Wizards game. Probably looking to make sure that doesn't get out of hand. I wonder how the Javie-Mauer dynamic will play out? Two pretty strong personalities...
I'm worried about Scola, yes. But he can't let the refs or the crowd get in his head. We need the Scola from the 3rd quarter the other night. The one who doesn't hesitate on his midrange jumper. Who finishes in the paint. And who pulls down rebounds and doesn't tip them around.
I hope you're right... I don't think we're going to get many calls tonight. We better bring our jumpshots. I just looked this up on some gambling site, and the numbers aren't in our favor today. Home teams have gone a combined 124-73 (0.629) straight up in games refereed by these three guys this year. Not sure how many (if any) games they've worked together.
i was hoping for Javie or Bavetta..... but as long as we don't have Brothers, i'm ok.... doesn't spooner always screw the rockets?...i remember a few times i.e...when he Threw Hakeem out for grabbing his leg when hakeem fell to the floor...he said Hakeem made physical contact with him so he threw him out.....i think we were playing GS that year.... Hakeem was just trying to get up and get his attention not trying to hurt Spooner...if he wanted to hurt him, he could kill him i wonder who the ref was in game 5 when Stockton hit the shot at the buzzer to beat us...which ref missed the call where Drexler was getting held on that last play....i hope it wasn't one of these 3 guys
I just hope the fouls are even on both ends.. and that none of them call flops!! Not even on Scola.. I hate it when scola flops, but love his fire and intensity..
Another trend is for refs to call BS for the visiting team at the beginning, but give the home team benefit of calls when it really matters at the end. This is what I really hope doesn't happen. I've seen it plenty of times and that's why people think games are so fairly officiated. Truth is, those bogus calls at the end to bail out home teams is what really decides the game.. So cheers to not having that tonight!! GO DEROSA, Rocket's new 6th man!!!
Well lookie here...I hope Joe Derosa has something against the Utah crowd By Mike Halford Bodog Nation Contributing Writer A list of projectiles hurled at officials following Utah’s 91-79 Game 4 loss to San Antonio, according to EnergySolutions Arena security: * Water bottles * Coins * Wrappers * Carmex lip balm * Towels * Soft mini-basketballs Ah yes, just another evening of playoff basketball in unruly Utah. Utah? Yes, Utah. On Monday night, two hours and 41 minutes of whistle blowing madness turned the land of Latter-day Saints into Hell on hardwood. For three quarters, the game was a spirited, one-point affair – and after four, it was a borderline joke, ruining a potentially great series and setting the table for Wednesday night's all-too-predictable Spurs close out. The performance of referees Joe DeRosa, Ken Mauer and Steve Javie over the final 12 minutes on Monday left even the most milquetoast Jazz fans red in the face. Conspiracy? In Utah, it's the stuff of Zapruder films and X-Files. San Antonio enjoyed a 25-2 free throw disparity in the fourth quarter, scoring 19 of their 28 points in the period from the charity stripe. Meanwhile, the Jazz were whistled for 11 fouls, four technicals and two ejections. When it was all said and done, San Antonio earned the unique distinction of being one of the few NBA teams to win a playoff game despite making more free throws (30) than field goals (28). Call Mulder and Scully. The truth about NBA officiating is out there. http://nation.bodoglife.com/sports-betting-news/hey-ref-youre-blowing-it-129978.html
I like this...hopefully they won't call as many BS calls whenever Deron drives into the line...although that means T-mac won't be getting the calls either (not that he has been getting them this series anyways ). As long as they call it fairly for both sides, I'll be happy. Refs who are reluctant to call a foul on a star Spooner, Joe DeRosa Comment: "The good officials know that's how the game is controlled. That's how we all make more money. No one's paying to see Tim Duncan on the bench."
Referees Ronnie Nunn, Leroy Richardson and Bill Spooner botched so many calls in favor of the Lakers during the closing minutes of that game that the Timberwolves, who clearly deserved to win, almost didn't. The most blatant error came when Minnesota's Wally Szczerbiak was called for a foul on a drive to the basket by Lakers guard Jannero Pargo (don't worry, if you didn't realize the Lakers even had a guard named Jannero Pargo, you're like 99 percent of NBA fans) even though the T-Wolves forward clearly never touched Pargo. Even NBA commissioner David Stern, a master of spin control, had to admit the refs blew that one. "Guess what," Stern said. "We make mistakes."
This is from espn.com Refs who constantly blow it Bernie Fryer, Ken Mauer, Derrick Stafford, Eddie F. Rush, Tom Washington Steve Javie Steve Javie is one of the veteran officials who will likely work the Finals. On Rush: "If I see Ed Rush, I feel like we have no chance that night This guy doesn't have a chip on a shoulder, he has a 2 by 4." On Fryer: "We call him replay because he's the guy responsible for the replay rule after he made that call in the Orlando-Charlotte game last year. And he threw out Greg Ostertag this year which was a controversial decision, too." On Spooner: "He's the guy whose always on SportsCenter when the anchor says, "Wait till you see the stupid call made in this game." On Stafford: "Big-time attitude problem and is moody. He's the guy who got in trouble with Pat Riley." On Washington: "Spaces out a lot. Sometimes we wonder what planet he's on." http://sports.espn.go.com/nba/playoffs2003/story?id=1563132
The sighs of relief for no Tony Brothers tonight may not be very accurate. He's the 2nd LEAST "Homer" official. Home teams actually have a losing (35-39) record when he refs, and only have a +.1 margin of victory overall. In comparison, the refs we have tonight have roughly 65% "homer" records, and about +4.0 margin of victory overall. Brothers may suck, but he apparently sucks in favor of the road team (just like earlier in this series).
For a game like tonight I actually prefer a ref that's moody and has an attitude problem. There's a better chance that he'll take offense to the inevitable onslaught of Jazz fan insults and start (at least subconsciously) trying to piss them off.
