LOL - not only did the Carrefour protest flame out, but it did so in part because the CCP brought out the old censorship stick - hee hee, the irony! Anti-French Boycott Falters in China
Umm, in light of the mysterious "suicide" of DC Madam and the concerted effort by the U.S. media -- in a Borg-esque fashion -- to paint it that way, Sammy boy, methinks your censorship outcry is misdirected. At least nobody died in Carrefour protests. Of course, in its typical faux news approach when it comes to reporting China, NYT fails to mention the kind of "health business" brought by "throngs of unapologetic shoppers" is a far cry from the much robuster shopping frenzy seen elsewhere in China. LOL ... can NYT be dumber than this? Are residents in Beijing dependent their daily lives on shopping in Carrefour? Are there not other supermarket stores in China's Capital? LOL again ... is NYT trying to make a point that effect of boycotting is nothing, or it's much more than a slap on the wrist. Make up your f* mind, NYT
I have no clue what you are even talking about - some weirdo conspiracy theory? That's cool. What I'm talking about is PRC censoring the Carrefour protests out of existence - sorry but even you got to admit that that is HA HA-Larious - i wonder if China Daily carried a story about that....lololo True, most chinese internet mobs are all talk, no action. Oh - let me conclude by saying you're welcome, for the daily dose of truth on China - from SamFisher. Aside:I don't think Chinese posters on the BBS realize how lucky they are to have me. I am Morpheus and bringing them into the world, I show them TRUTH - truth that they don't get from the matrix code. One day they will be dancing in the freedom of Zion, and I will be content.
Huh? The protests have already taken place, and their effect is palpable. It's a more than a "harmless" message sent. As oppose to Tibetan terrorist cheerleader on basketball forum?
^ Did you read the article? The protests failed - nobody showed up to protest, lots of people showed up to shop. Low prices won. I guess you can't eat nationalism!
Nobody showed up to protest because the protests have already taken place. What's next, which is happening right now, is boycotting at various degrees. Of course I read the article, Sammy boy. Not only that, I saw first hand in person the effect of boycotting Carrefour. Had a ride with a friend of mine last night. We drove pass a Carrefour, which looked like a ghost town. It sucks to be you, Sammy, who has to rely on sorry ass source NYT to get your China news. I don't know Carrefour is the French Walmart.
No, actually what sucks is to be you, play the "well it's just the biased western media" card - and have it blow up in your face within minutes: China Daily: Business as usual http://www.chinadaily.com.cn/china/2008-05/02/content_6657006.htm So - in a nation of 1.25 BILLION PEOPLE - The Carrefour protests rustled up all of maybe 500 - 1000 protestors. I'm not asian, so I'm not going to try to do the math - that seems like an awful small % - you want to help me out, my little friend?
Are you saying that boycotting is always the same thing as burning/destroying business as Tibetan mob did a month and half ago in Xizang? Business as usual = store open and close as normal It says nothing about the gain/loss in profits/revenues as a result of call for boycotting, and the protests which occurred at least a week ago, not the ones hyped/conjured up by the NYT you posted. Big difference.
Sammy, you need something bigger than a straw to grab to float on. The official Chinese newspaper can say whatever it wants, the people have already made up their mind, the blogs, forums, e-mails are running like wild fire of France, Carrefour, Tibetan Terrorists. Never before do so many people take a closer look at France. France, a country whose only victory is surrender at earliest chance when it comes to war.
I'm pretty sure you will find absolutely nothing like that in anything that I wrote - are you using google translator to simplified chinese? Maybe you should try traditional? YOu seem to be having a rough go of it tonight. bottom line: NYT & XINHUA AGREE - CARREFOUR BOYCOTT = FAILURE Edit: this thread is coming up ACES in the unintentional comedy scale, now we have Botnetizens telling us that OFFICIAL chinese state news service is UNRELIABLE. THat reminds me of the fact that OCEANIA is now at war with EASTASIA, and has ALWAYS been at war with EASTASIA. EURASIA is our ALLY, and HAS ALWAYS BEEN SUCH. Take down those posters. THERE IS NO SPOON, little bots. There is no spoon.
Sammy boy, find me in any one of the reports that the call for boycott has actually backlashed, in that it boosts the sales and revenues for Carrefour in China, or at least keeps in pace with the rest of the shopping frenzy elsewhere. Isn't the flip side you Sammy boy agrees with official Chinese state news service? LOL ... that's a good one. What's this garbage all about? To pump up the ignorant borgish ilk who follow you in their facts-finding mission on a basketball forum?
Gov can try to deflate anti-carrefour movement, through persuasion etc, that is. To use the censure tactics, I think is wrong. Anyway, Protest at the store isn't and wasn't the focus. Boycotting for a day is. Personally I don't think that's much wrong or damage for boycotting of carrefour, but I don't care much either. Well at least Sam won't be saying boycott is staged by the government nonsense. At least ccp makes Sam happy. PS, I've seen reports that Carrefours sales have been down. PPS, Sam, your girl Grace Wang is having her 15 minutes of fame, postponing exams for interviews and such.
The attempt to boycott Carrefour is not trying to get the retailer out of bussiness in China, but rather sending a message that Chinese public is angry about the way people politicized the Olympic game and no tolerance of tibet independence and would hold a grudge towards those purposefully demonizing China. Considering the "enthusiastic" international coverage about this Carrefour boycotting(which means the message has been heard) and a specific request from one of the EU trade leaders, and the fact that Carrefour is employing chinese and selling chinese made stuff, i do think no more publicly and visibly Carrefour boycotting or protests should be the direction of this ongoing event. After all, no one want to see ugly conflicts between chinese citizens and foreign visitors( athelets, journalists, and spectators, etc) during the Olympic games. I think, both parties need restraints. On one hand, no more provocative and untolerable gestures from human rights activisits( pretended or not). After the game, you can protest and shout as you want, i won't care a little about it. On the other hand, chinese people would have to command composure and be nice and friendly to foreign visitors as they normally do.
