I suppose this is more of a question for nutritional experts. I've been debating this for a while now. Its really more a metabolism question, and is relevant to my actual active cycle. It seems like metabolically you need breakfast to get you going. My problem is my whole sleep / eating schedule. I get up at 6 AM and right now my Breakfast consists of a muffin and a sugar free Red Bull. This provides me with enough fuel to get through the day until noon, at which time my 5 hour shift at work is over and I go home. If I don't eat anything, it takes me a lot longer to feel awake... although my job really doesn't require being awake for more than maybe an hour out of the 5 I'm there. I eat Lunch (i.e. 2nd meal) at Noon, but I don't seem to ever eat enough to feel really full and the idle time I have the rest of the day usually consists of me snacking on crappy food or maybe eating 2 more meals between 4 PM and 10 PM. So I'm wondering if I skipped breakfast in the morning, and just labored through my 5 hour shift, and ate my first meal at noon... would I be throwing off my metabolism completely or would I just be adjusting it? I suppose my real problem is just inactivity after I get home, I need to just stop eating but it seems like it becomes more out of habit than anything else. So is Breakfast that important as early morning fuel, or is it just "First meal of the day" that is important?
I don't eat breakfast, because i'm not hungry in the morning. I think you should eat something more healthy for breakfast though, like bananas. mmmm
I'm never hungry when I wake up either. I wake up and feel like a zombie. I have to literally force myself to eat within the first hour I'm awake. Muffins are about the only thing I can stand to eat, everything else seems like if I eat it I will throw up.
I've tried both scenarios. I find no difference. I'd rather not waste money on more food. Plus, I can use that extra 15 minutes sleeping.
I recall seeing the Coffee-Drinkers' thread a while back, and I mentioned I have about 2 cups in the morning... it's gotta be accompanied by something sweet like pastry or maybe some flour tortilla potato and egg tacos. Mrs. SwoLy sometimes prepares some Cinnamon Rolls from the renowned "Great Value" brand... they are DELICIOUS... I will have some at home and some at work. Sometimes, if she doesn't have enough time, I might get some Pop-Tarts and might or might not toast them. I will warm up some water and make instant NesCafé for her and me. I must have something like a sweet snack in the morning and, if not at home, at work. I find that if I eat REALLY LATE, I will be hungry in the morning... I know it's a natural digestive process, but I don't understand what happens. Breakfast is important for me, for I will then burn those calories/carbs/fat during basketball at lunch.
i dunno if this is good or bad but i eat 2 yogurts in the morning...i think they're 6oz each...the regular Yoplait yogurts... they hold me down for about 3 hours until i go eat some home cooked lunch with my wife...
I'm no expert but it seems that the great weight of conventional wisdom as far as eating goes is that eating more calories early >>> eating late
Not eating breakfast is usually either caused by a few things 1) lack of activity during the day to induce morning hunger 2) over eating at night 3) lack of time in the morning (poor time management) Not eating breakfast puts you on a fast track to energy crash and weight gain
I used to not be a breakfast person, but over the past 6 months or so I get it every weekday. Not exactly sure of the effect on my metabolism, but I can tell you that this pop tart I'm eating right now is damn good. BTW, I'm at the end of Solo Tour for guitar and I forced myself to strum up and down from the beginning and now it's easy. Finally!
I make myself eat breakfast, but most of the time i"m not even hungry...I've been doing the 5 meal a day thing and it seems to help my metabolism(3 lite meals and two snacks)...I'm not nutritionist, but I believe in this way of eating... However, sometimes I do over do it as I have no portion control...Free food is a bad thing for me as I can't help myself...Plus you can't forget about exercise to burn those calories you intake... Just don't eat a heavy meal late...and for breakfast, try a piece of friut or yogurt...Read labels and minimize large calorie intake...just my $0.02...
My change of job really threw me off as well. My previous job I worked a 13 hour shift 3 days a week in which I had to stand up 75% of the time and test electronic items. So I ate a bowl of cereal at 5:30 AM... eat a snack at 9:45 break... eat lunch at Noon... and then eat a pretty big dinner when I got home at 7:30. The warehouse had no air conditioning in the summer and would get up to 95 degrees inside. I had to constantly drink about a quart of water to keep myself hydrated. I'm pretty sure I lost at least 2 pounds every work day. Plus during break we'd usually do something active like play hacky sack or toss a football around. My new job I get to work at 7 AM and I usually sit on the computer 80% of the day. when I actually have to do work the only physical part is climbing up a ladder on a tanker truck to remove a sample from it. I do this maybe 5 times a day on average. I'm looking for a gym to join because I know this lack of activity is bad for me, but I'm still just wondering if forcing myself to scarf down a muffin in the morning is doing anything for me.
I never used to eat breakfast- it actually made me a little queasy. I started eating a bowl of Special K every morning over the past few months. Honestly, I don't see a difference- it certainly hasn't boosted my metabolism at all. I still get hungry around lunch time, too. So for me, I don't think that breakfast is all that important. I should mention that I have a pretty sedentary job, so I probably don't need the fuel in the morning as much as someone who does something more physical. A good friend of mine is a carpenter and can put away tons of food every meal and still stay fit.
Reasons for sleeping and waking up early. Evening at 9 - 11pm: is the time for eliminating unnecessary/ toxic chemicals (detoxification) from the antibody system (lymph nodes). This time duration should be spent by relaxing or listening to music. If during this time a housewife is still in an unrelaxed state such as washing the dishes or monitoring children doing their homework, this will have a negative impact on health. Evening at 11pm - 1am: is the detoxification process in the liver, and ideally should be done in a deep sleep state. Early morning 1 - 3am: detoxification process in the gall, also ideally done in a deep sleep state. Early morning 3 - 5am: detoxification in the lungs. Therefore there will sometimes be a severe cough for cough sufferers during this time. Since the detoxification process had reached the respiratory tract, there is no need to take cough medicine so as not to interfere with toxin removal process. Morning 5 - 7am: detoxification in the colon, you should empty your bowel. Morning 7 - 9am: absorption of nutrients in the small intestine, you should be having breakfast at this time. Breakfast should be earlier, before 6:30am, for those who are sick. Breakfast before 7:30am is very beneficial to those wanting to stay fit. Those who always skip breakfast, they should change their habits, and it is still better to eat breakfast late until 9 - 10am rather than no meal at all. Sleeping so late and waking up too late will disrupt the process of removing unnecessary chemicals. Aside from that, midnight to 4:00 am is the time when the bone marrow produces blood. Therefore, have a good sleep and don't sleep late. TAKE CARE ABOUT YOUR HEALTH Live Life Without Limits! Hot dogs Because they are high in nitrates, the Cancer Prevention Coalition advises that children eat no more than 12 hot dogs a month. If you can't live without hot dogs, buy those made without sodium nitrate. 2. Processed meats and bacon Also high in the same sodium nitrates found in hot dogs, bacon, and other processed meats raise the risk of heart disease. The saturated fat in bacon also contributes to cancer. 3. Doughnuts Doughnuts are cancer-causing double trouble. First, they are made with white flour, sugar, and hydrogenated oils, then fried at high temperatures. Doughnuts, says Adams , may be the worst food you can possibly eat to raise your risk of cancer. 4. French fries Like doughnuts, French fries are made with hydrogenated oils and then fried at high temperatures. They also contain cancer- causing acryl amides which occur during the frying process. They should be called cancer fries, not French fries, said Adams . 5. Chips, crackers, and cookies All are usually made with white flour and sugar. Even the ones whose labels claim to be free of trans-fats generally contain small amounts of trans-fats. ------------ --------- --------- --------- --------- --------- --------- --------- --------- ------- BRAIN DAMAGING HABITS 1. No Breakfast People who do not take breakfast are going to have a lower blood sugar level. This leads to an insufficient supply of nutrients to the brain causing brain degeneration. 2. Overeating It causes hardening of the brain arteries, leading to a decrease in mental power. 3. Smoking It causes multiple brain shrinkage and may lead to Alzheimer disease. 4. High Sugar consumption Too much sugar will interrupt the absorption of proteins and nutrients causing malnutrition and may interfere with brain development. 5. Air Pollution The brain is the largest oxygen consumer in our body. Inhaling polluted air decreases the supply of oxygen to the brain, bringing about a decrease in brain efficiency. 6. Sleep Deprivation Sleep allows our brain to rest. Long term deprivation from sleep will accelerate the death of brain cells. 7. Head covered while sleeping Sleeping with the head covered increases the concentration of carbon dioxide and decrease concentration of oxygen that may lead to brain damaging effects. 8. Working your brain during illness Working hard or studying with sickness may lead to a decrease in effectiveness of the brain as well as damage the brain. 9. Lacking in stimulating thoughts Thinking is the best way to train our brain, lacking in brain stimulation thoughts may cause brain shrinkage. 10. Talking Rarely Intellectual conversations will promote the efficiency of the brain ------------ --------- --------- --------- --------- --------- --------- --------- --------- ------- The main causes of liver damage are: 1. Sleeping too late and waking up too late are main cause. 2. Not urinating in the morning. 3. Too much eating. 4. Skipping breakfast. 5. Consuming too much medication. 6. Consuming too much preservatives, additives, food coloring, and artificial sweetener. 7. Consuming unhealthy cooking oil. As much as possible reduce cooking oil use when frying, which includes even the best cooking oils like olive oil. Do not consume fried foods when you are tired, except if the body is very fit. 8. Consuming raw (overly done) foods also add to the burden of liver. Veggies should be eaten raw or cooked 3-5 parts. Fried veggies should be finished in one sitting, do not store. We should prevent this without necessarily spending more. We just have to adopt a good daily lifestyle and eating habits. Maintaining good eating habits and time condition are very important for our bodies to absorb and get rid of unnecessary chemicals according to "schedule."
I'm not hungry in the mornings either, so I usually do an MRP before leaving for work. I get good carbs and protien, yet don't feel all full and bloated. Kind of unrelated, but I read an article a few weeks ago saying that you don't really need to drink 8 glasses of water a day. Something like 50% of the water you need comes from the food you eat. It said basically not to drink water unless you're thirsty. Wish I could find the article.
Man, I tried pop tarts and I could only do it for about a week until they started making me sick. I don't know why but if I eat something repetitively for breakfast, I get sick of it really fast and have to turn to something else. Up and Down strumming makes the guitar too easy, if you want a challenge... try strumming with hand movements like on a real guitar.
Whenever you have the most energy really. I send lots of clients home if they come to me dead tired after a long day at work where they didn't properly feed themselves. I do the same to my morning clients who come in without any food in their stomach after a restless nights sleep. Its factors like convenience and ability that should determine your workout time.
Makes sense to me, I've always heard that it is important to get adequate rest, eat your meals on schedule, and get your daily activity. Your check is in the mail.
